What a fricking joke of a sculpture. I mean seriously, people, what is wrong with the world today?! Have we completely lost any appreciation of beauty?

I like that it's a bit more abstract than the usual atypical 'tribute' statue that litters our cities like below.

That said I don't get the round circle and is a bit clumsy, but I like the approach taken that it looks like a line sketch.

I think I would prefer something like that, on a a whopping great stone base with seats. Though, to be fair, this should be a statue of Marc Brunel. Isambard finished the tunnel, but it was Marc's design and tunneling method that made it happen. I wouldn't mind seeing all three Brunels to be honest. Everyone forgets about Henry as they cross the Thames into Blackfriars

This application has disappeared entirely from the Southwark planning website. That's odd - even when applications are withdrawn by the applicant they normally remain on the system.

Not the Brunel statue application, the Canada Water sites C & E application.

The public consultation for this proposed scheme ended this January. An approval decision should come soon. The planning application can be viewed here.

Seems the Canada Water regeneration website (http://www.canadawater-southwark.co.uk/barratt-homes) is not long for this world - they've put up a valedictory message as below. Slightly premature, perhaps, with construction still ongoing and the last phase of flats yet to be released to market, but I don't disagree with the pat they're giving themselves on the back. Despite the dodgy economy, construction has been quick, the development has sold easily, it all looks good, some of it looks great (Fairmont House), and it's enhanced the area considerably.

Quote:
This website will be kept temporarily active to provide a record of the successful partnership and work between BL Canada Quays, the London Borough of Southwark, and the local community of Rotherhithe.

The original British Land Canada Quays partnership at Canada Water has now dispersed following the successful delivery of the area formally known as Sites A and B. This has delivered 900 new homes including 234 affordable, a new civic heart with the creation of the Canada Water Library and Plaza, and the creation of new spaces and accessible routes.

The final phase of residential housing on Site A continues to be built by Barratt Homes scheduled for completion by 2014. Canada Quays Ltd is continuing in partnership with Southwark Council to deliver in the area. British Land as joint owners of Surrey Quays Shopping Centre is bringing forward plans to refurbish and extend the shopping centre.

Thanks Gothicform. Royal Docks thread can be found here: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showth...350521&page=10

I take it that this development is the Great Eastern Quays development. Do you know when this is going to start construction?

It's offline again now, very strange. The consultation period has already started yet it's impossible to see the details, wonder what's going on?

Estates Gazette reports on the Sellar planning application at the Decathlon site (Canada Water sites C & E)

http://www.estatesgazette.com/blogs/...published.html

And it's back on the Southwark planning website (thank you Cartman), this time with documents. A lot of documents...
http://planningonline.southwark.gov....temkey=9548016

The buildings on the left look fine, and I have no problem with the tower, but I find the other two buildings around the new grass square very ugly.

Heygate estate lives again, I understand the reasoning for the design especially the panoramic views the inhabitants will have but it's blandness does nothing for the environment around here.
