I have no doubt about it!!

1. Now it takes 2 hours to go from Kalamassery to Nettoor. After two years it will be 5 hours.

2. Now it takes 30 minutes to go from Kakkanad to Palarivattom. After two years it will be 60 minutes.

3. SP/AP Road, Karimugal-Pallikkara-Pukkattupady road and PP Road will get more potholes, and the traffic will quadruple.

4. There will be record deaths of pedestrians and two wheeler riders in the roads to the east of Kadambrayar. (By tippers running to Smart City)

That is what gonna happen!!

etc.. etc...

But this is all a part of a city's development. If a city develops there will always be a negative aspect. Compare Bangalore or Pune now with that of the same city 10 to 15 years earlier.

So let us cheer about the positive things that are happening in Kochi than brag about these negative things which are going to happen. No Indian metro is spared from the adverse effects of urbanization and Kochi is no exception.

It would be really great if these things happen in a time bound manner.

At least we have a CM who is not anti development of the state.

I was just drawing attention to the need for wider development of infra, that's all.

Getting SCK moving is only 50% of the deal. If we do the regular babudom for the support infra (which I guess already started execution) it is going to be hell.

Yes, Bangalore IS hell, but Bangalore also have development. We just have hell, not corresponding development. That's all.

Govt planning 100 crore Innovation Zone in Kochi...

To come up in Kochi with initial investment of Rs.100 crore
The government proposes to set up an ‘Innovation Zone’ in Kochi with an initial investment of Rs.100 crore to accelerate innovation and entrepreneurship in the State, Governor H.R. Bhardwaj said in his address to the Assembly on Friday.
He said this was being done in the light of the encouraging success of the Business Incubation Centre at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram and the Start-up Village in Kochi. In the first phase, the Innovation Zone would provide three lakh sq ft of space at nominal rates to budding entrepreneurs and in specialised technology areas such as microelectronics and biotechnology.
The government would also form a ‘Handloom Village’ in Ernakulam district near to the major tourism circuits to improve the marketing of handloom, handicrafts, and coir products. A special provision of funds had been made to ensure timely payment of arrears due to artisans.
*Industrial promotion*
Reiterating the government’s commitment to industrial promotion, the Governor said several industrial projects were in the pipeline following the Emerging Kerala summit held in Kochi last year. The government would set up a ‘National Industrial Manufacturing Zone’ and a ‘Petroleum, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals Industrial Region’ as part of the measures to create new industrial infrastructure.
He said the performance of public sector industrial units had improved significantly. A number of proposals had been approved for their strengthening, and profitability was set to improve further.
The government had set for itself a target of creating five lakh jobs in the IT sector. The Technopark, Infopark, and Cyberpark would build additional IT space to achieve this. The first phase of the SmartCity project too had been initiated and it would be completed in a time-bound manner,

Kumbalangi to witness a green campaign soon

Kochi: As part of the responsible tourism initiative, the state tourism department will soon launch a green campaign in Kumbalangi. Kerala Institute Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) is the nodal agency for implementing responsible tourism project in Kumbalangi.

The first phase of the campaign will be resolving issues related to waste management. “A comprehensive survey will be conducted, covering all households in the area to assess the quantity of garbage being generated and to evaluate the existing waste management system.

Based on the survey results, biogas plants will be provided to all households in the panchayat. If needed, other waste management facilities will be set up to make the village self-reliant,” said Saroop Roy, KITTS official.

Mosquito eradication, plastic waste awareness programmes, collection and recycling of plastic are also on the cards. There are plans of setting up a cloth-bag manufacturing unit in the village.

Produce from farmers will be supplied to the nearby hotels and resorts. “There are enough agricultural and fisheries products in Kumbalangi. By forming supply groups, farmers can be connected to hotels and resorts,” said Sini Mol, KITTS official in charge of Kumbalangi project.

It was in February last year that Kumbalangi has been officially selected for the responsible tourism initiative and the first seminar was held in October.

“It will take at least six months to convert Kumbalangi into a responsible tourism destination. We have placed officials there and training has been given to them,” added Saroop

Business makeover planned for jetty
Quote:
KOCHI: If the Kerala tourism department has its way, Kochiites may get yet another hangout to sip coffee and watch the sunset on the backwaters. The department is planning to set up a cafeteria on top of the Ernakulam boat jetty building. Other than the cafeteria, snack bars and book shops, targeting tourists coming to the jetty, will also come up on its empty floors and generate extra revenue for the department.

The building presently houses the offices of tourism and state water transport departments and a snack bar on the ground floor. The two top floors of the building have been unoccupied for years.

"We plan to open a cafeteria on the upper floor of the jetty as it has a good view of the backwaters," said an official with the tourism department.

The department will float tenders after getting electricity connection for the building.

Though the building was constructed in 2009, it is yet to get electricity. The regional office of the tourism department was not able to apply for electricity connection as they had not paid the property tax. Recently, the department had remitted the tax and cleared the first step in this regard.

"We are in the process of floating tenders to open a cafeteria. But there are still some hurdles and it will be cleared soon," said P G Sivan, joint director, Kerala tourism department, Ernakulam.

However, department sources added that the central public works department (CPWD), which was given the contract of setting up an electrical substation in the compound, had delayed the project.

"Even after giving an advance amount of Rs 10 lakh from the total Rs 23 lakh earmarked for setting up the substation, CPWD has not done anything in this regard," said a source with the department.

Meanwhile, CPWD said tenders would soon be floated for setting up the substation.

"It is not possible to begin the work before the state government sanctions the full amount for the project. We have been holding discussions with the state government for the amount so that we can begin the work," said a senior official with CPWD.

Kochi will be Soon Solar City of Kerala

Quote:
he Kochi Corporation will soon entrust an agency with the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) for the Solar City project which aims at making Kochi the first solar city in the state. The civic body had already invited an Expression of Interest (EoI) from the agencies that will undertake the DPR preparation.

“We expect to award the work by this month. The Solar City project is implemented with the financial aid mainly from the Central Government. The DPR preparation, which is expected to cost `10 lakh, and the fund for this will be fully provided by the centre.

Later, during project implementation, the State Government too will have to contribute a certain share of the total project cost,” said a top official with the Kochi Corporation. He said that once the work for the DPR preparation is awarded, the selected agency is likely to submit the report within three months.

The Solar City project mainly aims at installing solar energy systems to power streetlights, garden lights, households, hotels and restaurants and major administrative offices. “Along with installing new solar-based devices, the project will mainly focus on increasing the energy efficiency of the existing system, thereby saving energy. For instance, the Kochi Corporation is paying nearly `5 crore to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) annually on electricity charges for street lighting and administrative offices. Under the Solar City project, the major spots in the city will be illuminated with solar lights, thereby promoting increased use of renewable energy,” an official said. He added that under the scheme, automatic switching system will be introduced for street lighting and this will help the KSEB in preventing energy loss as a majority of the street lights are not switched on and off on a timely basis.

The Corporation had already constituted a special committee led by Mayor Tony Chammany for the project. The Council had already approved the project and the DPR, once completed, will be presented at the Council fore its nod. “Once the Solar City project is completed, the Corporation can bring down its annual electricity charges to ` 2 crore, which is a huge marginal gain,” the official added.

Under the project, along with the main office of the Corporation, the zonal offices under it and the Ernakulam Town Hall and Subhash Chandra Bose Park will be installed with solar lights.
