There's a new(ish) bloke at work who is doing a very good job at coming across as being a bit simple, when there's every chance he's perfectly intelligent. He has this annoying habit of repeating half the words you're saying back to you instead of just, well, listening, and usually widens his eyes as though he's really surprised by the words coming out of your mouth. As a result, I keep any replies to his questions to a minimum or, if I'm feeling particularly passive-aggressive, stop talking as soon as he starts talking over me.

Could be a high functioning autistic. We do this to demonstrate we are listening and taking in the information as often we can look detached or like we don't care.
