Jaipur Metro: Not as smooth a ride as Delhi Metro

Link

Quote:
Since its inception, the Jaipur Metro Project has witnessed several bottlenecks - like land-acquisition issues and slow progress in civil works by contractors. As only five months are remaining before the June deadline for the completion of the project, the state government is getting worried.

UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal is likely to take stock of the project’s progress on February 2.

The minister, according to sources, is expected to visit railway station and Shyam Nagar station where civil works are lagging behind the schedule. A Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMCR) official said, “The minister has been requested to visits the project sites stretching from Mansarovar to Chandpole. He would seek the progress of the directions he had given when he had inspected the project a couple of months back.” After the inauguration of Ghat Ki Guni Tunnel, Gurjar Ki Thari Underpass and Ramniwas Bagh Underground Parking, the government’s sole aim is to gear up for the Metro project.

“The Ring Road cannot be completed before the tenure of the state government ends. So the government is eying Metro, which is a dream project of chief minister Ashok Gehlot,” said an UDH official.

The Jaipur Metro, reportedly, had been inspired by success of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which had completed the Delhi Metro project in record time with minimum delays.

In addition to this, joint secretary for Union ministry for urban development SK Lohiya also visited the project sites along with the officials of JMRC and DMRC. After the visit, Lohiya assured the JMRC that the grant will be released from the Central government to assist the project financially.

The JMRC has demanded a financial aid of Rs630 crore from the Central government to support Jaipur project estimated to cost around Rs3,180 crore. The requested aid is around 20% of the project cost.

Metro train to be launched in June: Shanti Dhariwal

Quote:
JAIPUR: Setting aside all confusions on the deadline of launching the Metro train, urban development and housing minister Shanti Dhariwal on Saturday said despite delays, the new-age transport system would be launched in the city in June.

Dhariwal said two rakes of Metro train would be brought to Jaipur in April to begin a trail run. Also another two rakes would be brought to Jaipur from Delhi in March.

The minister further said 10 rakes would also be supplied from Bangalore and out of these 10 rakes, two would be brought in April. On Saturday, Dhariwal inspected Metro sites between the two terminals -Mansarovar and Chand Pole. Accompanied by senior officials of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Dhariwal walked along the railway tracks covering some distance during the inspection.

Later, the minister expressed satisfaction and claimed that residents of the city would be able to take a ride on Metro train in June. "I am sure that Metro train will be introduced in the city in June, within the set deadline," he said, informing that the DMRC officials have also assured the state government that the Metro train would be launched in the last week of June.

In order to meet meet the deadline, the contractors have prepared a comprehensive action plan in which they will take up different works simultaneously which would save time, Dhariwal said. The DMRC has been taking up laying of railway tracks, wiring work for electricity supply and others simultaneously which helped recovery of delay.

Replying a question on delay in work, Dhariwal said the main reasons were land acquisition problems and court cases. He said the land acquisition took some time, which made it difficult for the government to meet the deadlines.

On the frequent accidents reported at Metro sites, Dhariwal directed the DMRC to take proper precautions to avoid such incidents. DMRC officials said the reason for accidents at Metro sites is due to the deployment of new labourers. "When labourers are new, the coordination between them was a slight concern," a DMRC official added.

Odds in favour of CISF to provide security at Metro stations

Quote:
JAIPUR: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel are likely to provide security at the Metro stations in the city. Both Jaipur Police and CISF have been bidding for the project but the scales might tip in the latter's favour.

Chief managing director, JMRC, N C Goel said a team of CISF recently visited the project sites and a proposal regarding costs and other details will be submitted soon. "The decision will only be taken after examining the proposal. We have zeroed in on the CISF and Jaipur police for providing security at Metro stations."

Sources said the staff strength of Jaipur police is a concern and it will be tedious process for the state government to recruit more staff in such a less time. On the other hand, CISF's deft handling of security at the Delhi Metro stations has earned appreciation from all corners.

Jaipur police recently sent a proposal to the state government for deployment of a dedicated police force under a deputy commissioner of police for the Jaipur Metro.

As per the proposal, police outposts will be set up at each Metro station and a separate one for the casting yards. The dedicated Metro security branch will not only look after the security, but also deal with crimes including robbery and thefts taking pace inside Metro trains and at stations

Talking to TOI, commissioner of police BL Soni said: "We have submitted the proposal to the state government which is being considered. A dedicated team of city police under an IPS officer will be deployed for Metro security if opportunity is given to us."

On the 9.25 km stretch (Mansarover to Chandpole), nearly 10 outposts are proposed. "This will be an added advantage as the redressal of passenger complaints will be quick," he added.

If the proposal is accepted, the state government will have to bear an expense of Rs 15 crore per annum to maintain the staff. According to officials, posts of one deputy commissioner of police (metro security), 2 additional DCPs, 15 inspectors and sub inspectors and 400 constables will have to be created.

With the completion date of the Jaipur Metro project inching closer, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) discussed various related issues, including the security at stations, at a recent meeting.

Metro project: Sharp curves to be given for first time (I like sharp curves )

Quote:
JAIPUR: Apart from getting completed in record time, the Jaipur metro rail project is on the verge of making another record -- for the first time in the country sharp curve of 120 metre radius will be given by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

On the Jaipur metro from Mansarovar to Chandpol (9.2 km route), the DMRC will give sharp curves at two critical points for the first time. DMRC project director Lalit Meghnani said, "We will give curve of 120 meter radius between Ram Nagar and Shyam Nagar station and railway station to Sindhi Camp." He added, "This sharp curve will be given for the first time in India. The roads are narrow and we cannot give a bigger curve as it requires more land acquisition and could affect many private properties."

As it will be for the first time, the DMRC wants to complete all the civil work before December 2012 as the inspection team from the Research Design and Standards Organisation ( RDSO) will conduct the number of oscillation trials. "The two curves will be thoroughly studied. It's a stringent procedure as ministry of Railways directs to issue the speed certificate to conduct oscillation and Emergency Braking Distance (EBD) trials for public comfort," Meghnani said.

An official said the train can run on the steep curves of 120 metre radius with speed restrictions. He said, "Both the curves are near the metro station so it will not be a major problem in clearing the speed test."

Not only sharp curves, there are other various civil construction that the DMRC will do for the first time. For instance, the DMRC is constructing the double-deck viaduct for elevated road and the metro track. The DMRC will construct metro station on a single pier for the first time in India. According to DMRC officials, the Mansarovar station will be the first in India to be constructed on middle pier alignment.

My situation is kind of similar although both my parents speak Marwari. Its very similar to most Rajasthani dialects...not hard to figure out the rest once you know one. What i find really annoying is that its only "spoken" and its very hard to learn it from some book or online resource. One of the reasons due to which it might be eclipsed by Hindi in the coming generations. Marwari mein baat karne rau tarike manne maluum koni.Auu chokho koni saa.
