UM have this as 187m/36L too, but I'll leave it others who understand levels better. This site is really going well, with massive excavation since my last shots on July 26th. I tried hard to find a better viewing point today, even asking two Multiplex reps to take a shot for me and asking the bar staff in Collins Quarter if they had an upstairs window. It's very frustrating, as we know that there is a crane base there (from Mark's General Cranes shots).

Mark Baljak has posted pics of the first crane. Great progress, after such a long wait to get the go ahead for this major project. The biggest change to our East End in many years.

Yes, i got there too, cros1517. Great to see a crane up that end again. The bad news is that the only gap in the Collins Street fence is now blocked by the base of the crane!

Might as well have another one, this from the east.

Great pictures. Looking at it from that angle it's hard to believe they've been able to find a way to wedge in not just a new office tower but a hotel as well. I imagine it can't be an easy construction job.

Yes, this has to be Melbourne's most dramatic example of increasing density. MY80 and Avant are just a prelude. Glenn's shots are very interesting. I've been keeping my eye on the hotel site, and suddenly it's all happening. Concrete trucks from the hotel site will have to exit into Russell Street, which is often chockablock.

I'm surprised they were allowed to get away with building this so close to Nauru House. It's a bit ridiculous tbh

That's interesting, Glenn, to see the new network of laneways. Why do they refer to the "South Tower"? I guess that makes the hotel the "North Tower", though it doesn't seem to be labelled as such. I have a connection to Pink Alley, off Little Collins, which is the western boundary of the site. In the 1960's, my partner's brother had an apartment in Pink Alley. CBD living was very rare in those days, though his brother was ahead of the times in other ways too, when he opened Melbourne's first disco, The Thumping Tum. Older members will remember!

Yes, Little La Trobe. Not so sure about Berties, but it sounds right. Stretching the old grey matter, isn't it!

Having a look at those drawings, the low rise and high rise lifts have two different numbers. I'm thinking 8 double deck lifts. Would be a first for Melbourne.

I can't recall but there may be a double decker at the Sofitel. That would be it. Can't think of anything like this in Melbourne ?
