Ipswich - Oct 2016

Ipswich today, just a quick walkabout, there is a bit more to see that I didn't get around to.

I like how there is literally nobody in sight in most of those shots. I don't know if I prefer this version of Ipswich to the one where the first 3 times I visited there was a fistfight or scragfight happening in Bell St - at least there was some local colour and activity.

It's a shame. There is some very nice architecture and all the makings for a good CBD, but it never seems to come together.

A once cohesive and impressive heritage precinct, now a jumble sale of mediocre architectural styles and ad hoc 'planning'. I know that's harsh but Ipswich makes me sad because it had potential to be something special. No reflection on your pics. I do like the riverside greenery and a few of the buildings.

Heritage buildings are well restored, but overall looks almost third world. Southern Queensland urbanity is fugly...possibly Australia's worst examples.

That mall is revolting!! Who thought a multicoloured path pattern was a attractive, and thought putting plants in metal steal drums was a good idea???? There are plans to revitalise the mall soon though?

Ipswich city centre does have enormous potential with its heritage buildings and a number of good redevelopment sites. They need to increase density within the centre and encourage more residential to create a more lively day/night and weekend economy going.

Well it is the poorest urban area in Australia so that makes sense
