If and when construction of the LRT1 extension to SM City finally happens, expect this thread to be busy....

is the future extension of LRT1 to SMcity the reason why there are no constructed Foot Bridge for the crossing passengers in the Monumento terminal area of the Lrt1

Patin Tero ang istayl e which I think causes heavy traffic in the area?

i don't know the foundation plans noong LRT e... baka masyadong risky kung maghuhukay doon sa area??

yes, the philippines has few, if there's any other, superbly sophisticated sculptor's pieces, and this is hands-down the most exquisite brass/bronze(?) statuary in the country.
the statuary work in luneta, makati, ortigas, and especially fort boni ALL SUCK!!
'trying hard' ang hitsura, and tastelessly pretentious

this one's a cut above and way beyond.

if you should go around monumento, there is not an angle of it that looks boring and unworthy of contemplation.

this may well be the ONLY filipino sculpture we can proudly send a replica of to italy or france.
i doubt if this will fail commanding the attention and awe of the natives there who happen to be connoisseurs of art by sheer birth ..

a few high-rises around monumento would really make the place a sight to behold.

That’s right. The problem is, no one at all seems to bother having a second look at it. Ask the people who frequently pass the area around the monument and they wouldn’t even know or remember any detail in the statuary.

Well, except maybe for that katipunero facing Rizal Avenue Extension holding a jungle bolo in an “Attack!” position (leaning forward with the hand holding the bolo thrusted in front, one foot forward with leg slightly bent, the other leg outstretched behind). It was the object of humor before, especially during the construction of LRT-1. It was the reason kuno why LRT terminates a few meters from the monument. Sabi daw ng katipunero: “Ooops, hanggang dyan ka lang…” to that effect.

A few years back, former mayor Rey Malonzo closed to traffic one side of the rotary/round-about, that portion crossing EDSA’s tip. Vehicles coming from Rizal Ave going to McArthur Highway have to negotiate a U-turn somewhere along EDSA instead of crossing the rotary, to the dismay of motorists.

The former mayor converted a short stretch of EDSA’s island into a linear park that terminates at the monument (thus the closure of a section of the road at the rotary), fenced it, landscaped it, and put some fancy light posts. His objective is to lure people to do a “historical walk” towards Bonifacio’s monument amidst the traffic at EDSA. What a waste of taxpayers’ money! In order to get into the linear park, you have to play “patintero” with EDSA’s horrific traffic. Who would indulge in relaxation at this park with all the noise and pollution at close range.

After a few months, the city elected a new mayor. Natalo asawa ni Rey Malonzo who ran for mayor (talk about political dynasty), while Rey also lost in the Congressional race. Finally, Caloocan woke up from years of believing that Asistio’s and Malonzo’s are the best people to run the city. Decades of their political dominance did nothing to improve Caloocan’s infrastructure.

One of the first things that the new mayor, Echiveri, did was demolish the historical walk. Wala rin kasing silbi. During the last feww month’s of Malonzo’s term, the linear park deteriorated. Yung mga fancy lights pundido na at basag-basag kahit ilang buwan pa lang. Binalik na rin sa dati ang traffic flow sa monumento circle.

I agree, it's similar to this monument in DPRK because of the group of people except this one is much more massive and has more ''peeps''.

Maybe because the prime lots were taken by Gotesco. Gotesco Grand Central used to be the Cecilio Apostol elementary school grounds. The other gotesco mall stands along the Bonifacio circle.

Some pictures of the Bonifacio Monument:

View of the monument from EDSA.

Side showing Andres Bonifacio and the side showing the Katipuneros bidding their families farewell.

Side showing the martyred priests.

Side showing the induction rites.
