Not sure whether this has any bearing on the works at Manchester Victoria but according to the Metrolink website all engineering works for this Saturday have been cancelled and a normal service will now operate on all lines although the Sunday work will still being going ahead

Not sure what they were going to be doing but perhaps Saturdays awful weather forecast has played a part?

Well nothing looks to grown over the weekend regarding the scaffold. A large generator has just arrived this afternoon on the back of a truck probably to power the site compound and offices.

Needs must and all that!! lol

Theres a hell of a lot more concrete on the bays now after last night. Seems mad that they spent all the money putting new paving down only to have to eventually have to dig it all up again!!

Oh well thats progress for you

Here's a few pics I posted on the Metrolink Extension thread, of the tramline's new scaffolding 'ceiling', now in place after the Sunday possession :-

Sometimes I feel the changes can't come soon enough.

Trains get in at Platforms 4 & 5 at the same time (double units), majority of course go across the foot bridge and then this is coupled with a train(s) arrival at Platform 1/2. Couple with the PID/tickets machines and the wet floor and it all felt a bit like the Eliminator at the end of Gladiators.

Not very exciting, but the shuttering for the concrete blocks/scaffold supports have now appeared on the Metrolink platforms in addition to the bays.

Also some interesting markings have appeared on platform 1 and 2 marked 'MEZZ'. There are three large squares at fairly random angles which I can only presume will be future footings of the mezzanine level from the arena

One thing though is that one of these squares is very close to the edge of the platform, I mean 3 or 4 ft at the most, I wonder if they plan to widen the bays? Certainly these towers dont look to help passenger flow thats for sure, unless you will be able to walk through the legs?

How do supports relate to this image? Appears to be three relativley close supports at the end of the platform.

Yeah maybe the squares are just relating to the foundations of those thin pillars. I had in my head some big ass 3 meter concrete towers.

They seem to match up with those pillars shown on your picture Watcher, 3 of them in a roughly triangular shape

I wouldn't like to try and get on and off the tram in the picture.

I love how the old roof will still be noticeable... look at the triangle marks on the back heritage wall... That is the current roof line I think.
When the roof is in place, I will take a photo from the rail platforms in roughly the same place for comparison with that designers image.

It is. So gives you an idea when your in the station now how much higher the roof will go.
Also notice some new rather large blue squares sprayed on the floor further into the station near where the food kiosks were moved from. Might be marking where another grey steel safety wall is to be erected. Yesterday a contractor was counting the metal steps down from the arena. Maybe something to do with temp steps to be put in when the originals get removed.

I honestly think this is Manchester's most exciting project right now - a wave of investment which will make the city centre look great
