Cheers highriser.

I don't have a clue what the form of this tower as a whole will look like. I remember we saw one image, but it was ground level only. Wasn't it sort-of pinky?

A bit of pink. And otherwise very long, very plain, and rather cheap sixties looking. A bit like some of the office buildings near Old Trafford cricket ground.

See the 19 storey berry street thread, click on jrb's link to the planning application, then click on drawing 1.

Apologies for being thick, but I can't remember which of you on the Manc forum is chair of the 20th Century society!
Could you PM me or visit the Liverpool forum?

The Royal Liverpool is possibly to be redeveloped and nobody gives a crap 'coz it's 60s', so it's ugly'.. there are though, loads of quite beautiful and many really poweerful buildings and I think the issue should be raised.

He just went to uni in manchester so there is no telling that he is a manc but judging by them Burnage-like eyebrows.........!

I always rooted for Captain Black and the Mysterons because as Basil Fawlty said "You started it" by blowing up their moon base (or was that UFO?)

Also, I always found Cpt Scarlett a bit smug - being immortal and all certainly went to his head a bit i think!

Bom, Bom, Bom , Bo-bo-bo, Bom.

ps. dont like the sound of this 'devastating atomic war' in 2028 much!
I might go on holiday that week!

Who needs a super casino

Looks like the Great Northern Casino is set to open in October. I'd almost given up hope on this, but should at least add vitality to the building. A good boost for the area with Hilton due to open in Sept and Gt Northern nearing Completion:

also there's a new shed, I mean casino opening on Bury New Rd. soon. In fariness it fills a bit of waste land...

This might be of interest to those living or using the Wilmslow Road corridor. Outline application only at this stage.

079170/OO/2006/N2 Charles Wilson Auto Engineers Site
Wilmslow Road/Stone Place, Rusholme

OUTLINE APPLICATION for permission for siting and means of access for the erection of two x 6 storey blocks to form 67 self contained flats with restaurant on ground floor of Block B, after demolition of existing buildings

I wont miss that place - will anyone?
Its just that sheddy garage opposite Hardys Well.
Seems an awful lot of flats on such a small site though and also means at least 67 more blooming cars trying to get in and out of NoRushHome
Its about time there were some decent new-builds in the Rusholme area - particularly fronting Wilmslow Road... and about time they were of an appropriate size to confer the sort of status appropriate to this important corridor. You are right though, the traffic is horrendous at the best of times but a maximum of 67 more cars is a drop in the ocean and transport-wise this is about the most sustainable location you can get! Assuming its of a decent design when they come to submitting Reserved Matters, then I hope the planners let this one through.

That new 'g casino' is in SALFORD not Manchester, they always get it wrong
No, that is still in the city of Manchester there. It changes to Salford a bit further up the road - not that it makes any difference. Bohm (the furniture shop) pays rate to Salford, but they state their adddress as Manchester and only refer to themselves as Manchester. Cousins on Regent Road, state that their new store is in Salford, Manchester. The Staples store on Regent Rd, class it as their Manchester store and their receipts show Manchester as the address. Apart from a few die hards (the same type of pedants who object to the City of Westminster being classed as London, or Hove as Brighton) Salford IS just Manchester.

Heatwave blocks the Barton Bridge

THE weekend's hot weather proved too much for one of Greater Manchester's bridges which swelled and could not close properly.

HOT: The Bridge gets a soaking.

As people across the region enjoyed the hottest day of the year on Saturday, firefighters had to hose water on Barton Swing Bridge to cool the metal. The problem occurred as temperatures in Manchester reached 28C (86F), higher than anywhere else in the north west.

Advertisement your story continues below
A Met Office spokesman said: "Temperatures will edge down over the next couple of days, although it should generally be fine and dry."

Except Liverpool, Blackpool and Crosby where 29C was recorded, jeez get it right.

I know it's a bit pathetic pointing that out before I get a barrage of abuse for being bothered but it's just lazy reporting :weirdo:
