You are too right Iozza! As usual.

One would think that any developer, or architect, in their right mind would recognise the street-credibility in building to at least 200 metres above street level in such circumstances.

What were they smoking when they said:

'we have designed you a magnificent block of flats (Age/Nimby speak) and it is 199 metres tall. Sorry, but you can't afford the extra metre!'

They must have been off their faces! In this case it is 188 CULometres tall/193Riddlzmetres, but same difference.

Who says to the architect....'57 levels and 188 metres tall' in the design brief? Get real!
Any Architect worth his salt will sell it back to the client with that 200 metre threshold as a taunt!
I think it can be said that EF have done everyone over in this case. Not happy Jan!

Haven't you quoted 193m as per the old title and CUL is now back to 188m
even with the remodelled top storeys. FIIK!

You should be happy that you had a new 'dimension' named after yourself.

Can't please some people!!!

Go and have brekky out somewhere... Enjoy!

Haha, sorry. Just don't know what you are talking about. I don't think I ever quoted Abode as 193m.

Miss Frank... that's the one where that old Persian carpet store used to be right? I might check it out, heard it's pretty good

Looks good, it kind feels like it blends with the existing architecture yet stands out if it makes sense...almost like a post-modern building with a kink.

beautiful from the front, nice from the back, dog either side. Surely they could have been remotely imaginative for the top for the sides even if just for the top few floors. Give the building a crown instead of short back and sides.

Yep, looks great from the Russell Street view. Any angle that gives this face precedence is visually intoxicating.... it stimulates the senses quite wonderously, just like the front page of a promising good read.... Then it all falls apart from there. Eastern suburbs have to look at an uninteresting 'second-rate' face, applicable to almost every other high-rise block of flats.... North and South sides have to tolerate a splinter that only gives a shred of hope that there could be something more interesting around one of the other sides.

In summary:
1 side = architectural icon.
3 sides = block of flats.
Total PappScore: 5/10

Maybe a stretch here but could they possibly be considering leaving the sides as a blank canvas to add some eye-catching art? Would have looked mad if they do

As you can see, The Total Car park building and Hoyts Cinema Centre are landmarks at this end of town...and so say all of us !

Ahem.... so says red... and he's not speaking for ALL of us....

You can add those two to my list of bulldozer sites for today (yesterday was
the turn of the Palace Theatre and Luna Park).

Only God knows what will be on tomorrow's list! Maybe I should start a new thread entitled 'Papps Bulldozer list'.... zero tolerance!
