I think this will make a fine addition to the City. It's taken enough time. I like the look of the future cladding (but admittedly reality doesn't always compete with renders). The skewed shape makes it less of a box.

Was at Sushi Samba last night in the Heron (or whatever it's called now) and one downside to this building is the views it will block from there.

The other downside is that it's also going to block out all of the light!
The Heron Tower/110 Bishopsgate only really got planning approval because the entire South elevation glass had been embroidered with thousands of 'eco' photovoltaic cells.
Then 5 years or so down the line the planners approved this lump right on the conflicting other side of the road!

seriously? how ridiculous. i seem to lose a little faith/enthusiasm for this place's development every day.

on another note, comparing this 172m tower to the quote-unquote 230m Heron reveals what a complete joke that measurement, and the idea of it being the city's tallest, really is. i might as well put on a silly clown hat and claim to be 7ft tall

Very impressed Chest that you pressed the shutter to capture the "seconds left" on the crossing to indicate the core level. There is just no end to your talents.

So, when will the core start rising again?

Steelwork continues to go on, from Thursday (25.08.2016):

For those who have tried and succeeded in taking a photograph of this from Bishopsgate without a red London bus in the way of the shot, well done!

30 Saint Mary's Axe - Lost sightline from Bishopsgate (25.08.2016)

As far as I have been aware this has been a 172m tall build, so since when had the height been increased to 181m?

I don't think so. I've done a bit of research on this and I found out that the 172m tall tower is 187.126m AOD.

So either the consented approved height of the scheme has been changed and approved under our noses or that is one big typo on the site hoarding.

Perhaps some mechanical equipment will rise above the parapet, or a flag mast will be added.

heh, another ugly BDU that was mysteriously absent from all renders, like 80% of other buildings I've watched go up these last few years? wish they would put a stop to that.

or perhaps a nitwit measured the blueprints from bottom of basement level to top?

suppose I should check the planning portal rather than throwing cynical guesswork around, but i'm too lazy
