Its Cochin Shipyard - ERS line, not Alleppey.

Anyway both these lines do not exist now. For the Cochin Shipyard line, even the tracks have been completely removed and the road crossings tarred over. On the contrary, the tracks and even the level crossings are still maintained for the various branch lines that go to the wharfs in Willingdon Island.

It would be a good idea to revive the NAD line and extend it to Perumbavoor, and maybe connect it to Kalady. It will serve as a handy suburban line. It would cost only a fraction compared to a possible future new line of the metro to Perumbavoor.

Boss, yes it is ERS - CSY line only , i have also intended that ... for easy understanding i mentioned Alleppey because it is in the Alleppey direction , first the rail line goes and then take a diversion , just like guruvayoor route starting from Trichur .... For easy understanding we say as Shornur direction or from the shornur line from trichur where the path deviates.

Also i have read a couple of years back that the level crossing in the MG road may reerect any time if railway needs. Covering a railway line does not mean that a line is abandoned for ever.. The best example is the Old railway station line where Pachalam cross is covered with tarring . Now it may remove and the rail will be laid in its original position once the renovation works of Old railway station is over.

I was also think same... May be they utilise the space infront of first platform entrance...
But yet the report say .. 18 acres of railway land will handed over for international standard cafteria, Hotels , seating, Toilets . Not sure which is this 18 acres..
Hope they will consider building proper parking space .. may be multi level....

Current parking system sucks... maximum vehicles are parked in every space available that your vehicle get damage for sure.. and even parking a car for one hour will result in covering with crow shit....

Kerala to pitch for Integrated Terminal at Ponnurunni

A mega terminal with minimum 6 platforms can easily be developed. The new terminal can be developed with no LA and can go in for PPP model development with larger facilities.

Once realized, all Kottayam side trains can use this, making Alleppey bound trains to use only South. North railway station to become redundant

I think in-principle nod has been accorded. Ofcourse, its railways... Several round of approvals and nods required for a project to see light.

Kerala rail plans on track

Quote:
The Railway Board has approved the priority list of projects to be taken up by Kerala Rail Development Corporation Limited (KRDCL), the joint venture between the state and railways for executing rail projects on 51:49 cost-sharing basis including the third and fourth line along the 574-km Thiruv-ananathapuram Central-Kasaragod corridor. This was decided at the meeting between Ashwani Lohani, Chairman Railway Board and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan here on Friday. The state government planned to run high speed trains on the corridor.

However, the railway board chairman pointed out that there were technical issues in running high speed trains, but agreed to run semi high speed trains in the corridor. A survey would be conducted for the purpose.

Cochin Airport link rail, building a terminus at Ernakulam, rail connectivity to the upcoming Vizhinjam seaport were also approved at the meeting. The detailed project report (DPR) of the Thalasserry-Mysore line via Mananthavady will be completed before December 31.

The total cost of the 247 km line was estimated to be Rs 3,209 crore. The total distance between Thalasserry and Mysore which is 810 km now, will be reduced to 570 km and travel time reduced by 12 hours with the new line.

The railway board also agreed to consider the Erumeli-Punalur line of 65 km linking Sabarimala with an estimated cost of `1,600 crore. Ettumannor-Pala line of 15 km linking it with Sabariline was also under consideration. Project reports will be prepared for the development of Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Varkala stations. The work of the Kochuveli terminal will completed by March 2019 if land was available.

The absence of line strength was the reason for not running new trains in the Kerala sector. It was in this background that the state decided to invest in railway projects in the state.

No shifting of TVM railway division

Railway Board chairman Ashwani Lohani has said that the Railways has no plans to hand over 160 kilometres of railway line of Thiruvananthapuram division to the Madurai division. The rumours circulating in this regard is devoid of facts, he added.

The railway board chairman told reporters here on Friday that the passengers association of Kanyakumari had petitioned the railway board saying that the Thiruvananthapuram division was neglecting the interest of the passengers from the sector.

This petition had the demand of handing over the railway lines to Madurai division. This was forwarded to the Southern Railways for comments. There was no other decision on the issue, said Mr Lohani.

The rumours were that the railway was planning to handover the busy Nemom-Nagercoil- Kanyakumari and Nagercoil-Tirunelveli corridors under the Thiruvananthapuram rail division to the Madurai division.

The rumours circulated after the Railway Board’s letter to the General Manager, Southern Railway, seeking his comments on the transfer of the two lines in exchange of the Shencottah-Kollam section from Madurai to the Thiruvananthapuram division sent in June 6.

The letter of the Director, Efficiency and Research, Railway Board, to the General Manager had quoted the earlier letters of the board on November 2, 2015, December 1, 2015, January 7, 2016, August 23, 2016, and February 20, 2017 raising the same demand.

Whats exactly this Cochin Airport Rail Link? Anyone has any idea?

The airport is located on side of a railway line. What they are talking about a 10 KM airport Rail link?

Are they planning to draw railway line into the Airport gate?

Quote:
The Railways has, in principle, agreed to a state government proposal for a third and fourth railway line linking Thiruvananthapuram and Kasargod, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday. The third and fourth line will be laid parallel to the existing double lines, he said after a meeting on Kerala-specific rail projects with Railway Board chairman Ashwani Lohani. Kerala had originally proposed high-speed trains for the new lines, but Lohani informed the government that this may not be possible due to technical problems. Instead, semi high-speed trains can be run, he said.

The Kerala Rail Development Corporation, a JV of Kerala government and the Railways, will conduct a survey for the new lines. Congestion on the existing lines being the major hurdle for launching new train services, the government is banking on the new tracks to overcome this handicap. The Railway Board chairman has asked Kerala to submit the detailed project report for the Thalassery-Mysore (via Mananthavady) route before December 31.

The 247 km line is expected to cost Rs 3209 crore. The present Thalassery-Mysore link is 810 km. The new line will reduce it by 570 km and 12 hours in travel time. If the project is approved, the work can be completed in 2024, Pinarayi said. According to him, Lohan has also promised that the Railways would consider the proposal for the Rs 1600 crore, 65 km Erumely-Punalur line.

The 15-km Ettumanur-Pala line also will be considered. At the meeting, the state government also put forth proposals for the Balaramapuram-Vizhinjam port rail link, the 10-km link to the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) and railway terminus at Ernakulam. A decision was taken to prepared project reports for the development of the Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Varkala railway stations. Provided land is made available on time, the work on the Kochu Veli terminal can be completed in 2019, the Chief Minister said.
