CM speaks on various projects in Tvm

Source: THe Hindu
Quote:
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has emphasised the role of residents’ associations in water conservation and in overcoming water shortage in the city.

He was inaugurating a seminar organised by the Federation of Residents Associations Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT) on ‘Smart City, Light Metro projects and other development activities in the city’ on Friday, as part of its 23rd anniversary celebrations.

Referring to the acute water shortage in the State capital recently, Mr. Vijayan said the region was facing a similar situation now owing to deficient monsoon.

“Under the circumstances, we might have to adopt precautionary measures to optimise the use of available water. The Haritha Keralam Mission has undertaken steps to preserve and renovate waterbodies,” he said.

He said large sections of the public were yet to undertake rainwater harvesting. “The time has come for proactive steps such as diverting rainwater to wells and setting up rainwater harvesting pits. Besides, the need to avoid wasteful usage of water cannot be stressed enough,” Mr. Vijayan said.

The Chief Minister said preliminary works for the ₹4,219-crore Light Metro project that would connect Technocity and Karamana had begun

The works on other major projects including the proposed expansion of Technopark, Vizhinjam seaport project, biodiversity museum, Kovalam-Kollam waterway, restoration of Parvathy Puthanar canal were in various stages of development.

As usual the CM's statements have the hollow ring typical of a politician. Is anything happening in Parvathi puthanar?

i reckon the gauges will be same for Light rail and medium metro.(standard gauge)

so if standard gauge is being used , they can use medium metro from technocity to technopark phase 3 and light metro to papanangode .. right ?

i reckon light metro will have less ticket fare than medium metro , so it can attract daily commuters who is afraid spending more , (we saw that mentality in AC low floor bus where locals were reluctant to board that bus coz it costed more )

parking should be free/less than 20 in metro stations .

Calicut and Trivandrum airport expansion along with new Sabari Airport are need of the hour. I fully support this.
But can't call it as a second airport for Calicut. As far as I understand, Unlike Trivandrum, Calicut airport expansion is not just with land acquisition but also with landfilling as it's a table top runway. So for that cost it's better to relocate to an ideal place like Thiruvambadi. Hope that get momentum !!

In Trivandrum, I prefer to expand the present airport after having positive discussion with land owners with complete rehabilitation. And to shift the air Force station near by - Kochuveli ISRO road.

Having separate Airport for domestic and International travels are not a good option. Also if a second airport comes, the location earlier suggested were Kanyakulangara or West of Parassala. So having domestic and International airports too far is a big NO in my views.
Though I don't have much visibility on airstrips or aiports, just drove a plan came to my mind for the future Trivandrum.

Extending the present road entering from palayam- sangumugam road till Enchakkal and making a one way itself will address the traffic issues.

I think we should give special award to CPI for such blunders.

I don't know when we will be able to get rid of these. We need some one who knows our city and can change the face of Trivandrum

No thank you. Let them get him elected from Bihar! We should reject all imported candidates including OR. What has he done for us since his election?

More bus stops in the city to be relocated

Times OF India| Updated: Aug 15, 2017, 12:12 AM IST
Quote:
Thiruvananthapuram: In a move to prevent traffic disruption at major junctions, city traffic police are relocating some of the bus stops in the city. Recently, a bus stop at Statue Junction was relocated as part of the initiative.
The stop for buses to Peroorkada and Vattiyoorkavu routes was shifted from earlier spot near Statue-General Hospital road to a spot in front of SBI on MG Road on Thursday. But, the change introduced without giving it any publicity had caused confusion among passengers and transport bus drivers.
Next in line is Palayam Junction, where the spot near Martyrs' Square has become a bottleneck with passengers standing on road, while waiting for buses, and obstructing the movement of vehicles as well as pedestrians. The buses going to Sreekariyam, Pongamoodu, Venjaramoodu, Nedumangad, Peroorkada and Vattiyoorkavu halt at the stop near to Matryrs' Square. The stop for buses going to Nedumangad, Peroorkada and Vattiyoorkavu will be relocated to a spot near Horticorp stall.
"We have identified some junctions in the city where traffic disruptions are reported due to overcrowding of passengers in bus stops. There is no bus stop near Martyrs' Square. As there are passengers standing in the area, the bus drivers stops the bus for them. In the coming weeks, more bus stops will be relocated," said traffic ACP S Anil Kumar.
According to vice-president of TRDCL Anil Kumar Pandala, the proposal to relocate bus stops away from junctions was submitted to the traffic advisory committee.
"The relocation of bus stops at Palayam will ease the traffic and pedestrian movement in the junction. The vehicles coming from Asan Square are not able to take a left turn as the place is often overcrowded with passengers. There should not be any bus stops there, because it will lead to traffic disruption. Similar is the case of the spot near Kalyan Silks showroom in Palayam where buses are seen halting for passengers," said Pandala.
"As per IRC code, bus stops should be 150 metres away from junctions and there should by 500-metre distance between each bus stop. These norms are not being followed in the district," added Pandala.
cheers!!!

If you remove 'useless' men from politics, there wont be anyone to rule us either as MLAs or MPs

At the site where Heera's corporate office was planned (Women's college junction, vazhuthacaud), there is a new hoarding from Sunrise infrastructure & projects (based in Chennai/Vadodara). Not sure what is coming up there, may be some apartment complex. Since I believe Heera is plunging into loss, they can't bear a better office complex there.

Heera is selling its assets and landholdings.
