Rs 200-crore convention, exhibition centre soon

The government of Gujarat will establish a state-of-art Convention and Exhibition Centre to host events such as international trade fairs.

The centre is porposed to be set up on both the sides of banks of Sabarmati river.

The Convention and Exhibition Centre to be set up at Bhat and Nana Chiloda on both the sides of river will occupy 80 acres of land near Indira Bridge.

The centre will comprise auditoriums, convention centre, five star hotels, business lounges, conference rooms and more and it will be established on the basis of public and private partnership.

The project will take at least three years to finish.

Though the cost of the project depends on the project developers, it is expected to cost more than Rs 200 crore.

This apart, the government has plans to invite a group of international hotels having chains of five star hotels across the country, however, the plan is still in the pipeline.

This is to be noted that hardly two or three international trade fairs are being organised in the state either during the kite festival or Navratri.

Therefore, it was learnt that the beuraucrats are not confident enough of whether this costly project will give any returns.

I don't have skyscraper pictures (the city is earthquake prone), but these are from a group protesting the commercialization of public space at the National Institute of Design, near Ahmedabad.

Sattelite Road

Vijay Cross

Premchandnagar and CG Road

Ahmedabad is progressing really fast, Gujarat has really high state gdp growth rates (over 10% for the past 10 years, 15.8% last year). Other cities in the state are also doing well, Gandhinager is a lot greener and cleaner than Ahmedabad. Surat and Baroda are richer (per capita), but I can't find good new pics of those cities.

Heres a crummy photo (public domain, from wikipedia) of the textile district in Surat
Iam happy to see this flyover in SSC.

This is the longest one i ever saw(probably 2.5 to 3 KM long).

I would like to see more pics from Surat. there are many nice buildings on Ghod Dhod road, parle point, ring road etc.

The roads there are far better than those I found in Pune.

5-star hotel planned in old Ahmedabad

Eastern Ahmedabad may soon have an eight-storied five-star hotel. The project, proposed by a local developer, at an investment of Rs 150 crore, is being planned on the eastern end of Eliis Bridge.

The proposed 200-room hotel would come on the land, which once housed workers’ quarters of Ahmedabad’s very first composite textile mill, Bechardas Spinning and Weaving Mills Co Ltd. The mill was later renamed as Prasad Mills Co Ltd.

The site is located behind the Lokmanya Tilak garden, popularly known as the Victoria garden, and faces river Sabarmati.

It is spread over 8,843 square yard and is part of the total 42,733 sq yd area on which the mill was set up in 1865 by Bechardas Lashkari.

The permitted floor space index (FSI) in the area at present is 1.8. This may be relaxed as the authorities are contemplating allowing FSI up to 3.6 for taller buildings in the upcoming Sabarmati Riverfront project.

A mega project for Ahmedabad

http://inhome.rediff.com/money/2007/jun/28gift.htm

Ahmedabad's Tagore Hall, popularly called Town Hall, witnessed inauguration of a plan to develop a financial services city consisting of an international financial city segment, domestic finance city sector, a technology park and an integrated township on Thursday. The project's foundation stone was laid by the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar on early Thursday morning marked by a bhoomi puja.

Right after Modi lit the project's inaugural lamp, IL&FS signed several memoranda with principle investors in the projects like Kotak Mahindra (committed to develop 300 acres of land), Chest Core (to design 2 million square foot of space), Punj Lyod (set to design 1 milion square foot of built-up space), and Fairwood Associates (to deal with 1 million square foot area), to name a few.

GIFT enjoys significant locational advantages in being situated near the capital city of Gandhinagar and in being only 12 km away from the international airport of Ahmedabad. Moreover, the flying time from India's commercial capital of Mumbai to Ahmedabad is just an hour.

In this project, worth Rs 3,000 crores (Rs 30 billion), Gujarat Urban Development Company Limited on behalf of the government of Gujarat is partnering with Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited. GUDC and IL&FS are promoting the project in public-private partnership mode through the joint venture company Gujarat Finance City Development Company Limited.

The project, with a built-up area of up to 25 million square foot will consist of offices (to take up 60 per cent of total space), residences (25 per cent of the total area), commercial buildings (11 per cent) and services sector (4 per cent).

The city promises to be equipped with an efficient transportation system besides possessing a fully integrated technology centre. As a financial hub, the city will target international financial services, which include offshore banking units, international financial services firms and back office processing centres.

In the domestic segment, the city plans to work in tandem with financial institutions, capital and commodity market players, investor organisations and associates and regulatory bodies.

The city's technology park hopes to see participation from ITes, BPOs, KPOs as well as educational support service providers.

East China Architectural Development Institute (Ecadi) will undertake designing and developing GIFT.
