Azerbaijan is situated in the Caucasus region, on the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Three physical features dominate Azerbaijan: the Caspian Sea, whose shoreline forms a natural boundary to the east; the Greater Caucasus mountain range to the north; and the extensive flatlands at the country's center. About the size of Portugal or the state of Maine, Azerbaijan has a total land area of approximately 86,600 square kilometers, less than 1% of the land area of the former Soviet Union. Of the three Transcaucasian states, Azerbaijan has the greatest land area. Special administrative subdivisions are the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, which is separated from the rest of Azerbaijan by a strip of Armenian territory, and the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, entirely within Azerbaijan. Located in the region of the southern Caucasus Mountains, Azerbaijan borders the Caspian Sea to the east, Georgia and Russia to the north, Iran to the south, and Armenia to the southwest and west. A small part of Nakhchivan also borders Turkey to the northwest. The capital of Azerbaijan is the ancient city of Baku, which has the largest and best harbor on the Caspian Sea and has long been the center of the republic's oil industry.
There are many infrastructure and resort things under construction. Sure, it is bar behind Croatia, Turkey or Greece, but even though not that bad, i think underrated too much
Yeah, that is right. But you can't say undeveloped, maybe less developed ( There are no many tourists because we haven't been a tourist destination. We had only 1.3 mln tourists visited Azerbaijan in 2008. This is a small number i think. They plan to make it 3 mln in 2012.
Anyway they constantly do some infrastructure projects in the regions of Azerbaijan: new roads, resort complexes, investments in the economy of the regions...
For example, in the last few years we have a good progress in gasification. We have very few small villages where there is no gas at all. More than 90% of the country have gas in their homes. I think this is very good too, cause people don't have to break the forests just for heating.
Lo habia oido mencionar antes, pero nunca habia visto fotos, es como la frontera de dos mundos, bastante interesante el país, se ve algo frío, nunca habia visto su bandera, buenas fotos para conocer ese lejano país.
Sumgait is a city in Azerbaijan, located near the Caspian Sea, about 30 kilometres away from the capital, Baku. The city has a population of 357,900, making it the third-largest city in Azerbaijan.
It is a very beautiful country indeed.. and If you like it you should also check out Armenia and Georgia.....The caucasus countries all have beautiful women, scenery, and history.
The greatest thing is that each one has its own little twist and flavour to the whole kavkaz theme. When karabakh is solved hopefully they will allow armenians into Azerbaijan and I can see all the caucus countries with my own eyes. So far I have been only to Georgia and Armenia.
Yeah, it is easy. I can give you information on one travel agency which can provide you with hotel and a special program in Azerbaijan for 3 and more days. It costs cheap
