Additional info:

The project of new Seaport Passenger Terminal construction in the western part of Vasilievsky Island was called last year the most ambitious. And it really is. The similar examples don't exist neither in our city nor in Russia.

Three berths for cruise vessels more than 300 m in length will be built already by 2008. It is scheduled to finish up the Seaport Passenger Terminal construction by the end of 2009. It will be possible to receive seven passenger and ferry vessels at the same time.

According to the calculations the Passenger Terminal will be ready to receive about 12 thousand tourists per day during the high season that will bring not less than 56 million $ per year to the budget of Saint-Petersburg and about 69 million $ to the federal budget.

The project implementation was entrusted to «Marine Facade of Saint-Petersburg» Ltd.

On new filled up territory of 450 hectare square recreation areas for citizens, apartment blocks and business buildings are planed to be created. This project implementation is carried out by Proektno-stroitelnoe agentstvo «Perspektiva» Ltd.

According the preliminary estimate the project costs will be:
450 hectares square of reclaimed territory formation – around 430 million dollars.
Hydraulic structure (berths, basin, approach way etc.) – more than 200 million dollars, in 2005 600 million rubles were assigned for dredging works (approach way and basin).
At the present time engineering maintenance documentation is working out by specialized committees and organizations. According to preliminary estimates creation of the new reclaimed territory engineer network, reconstruction of water and power-supply on Vasilievsky Island will require more than 250 million dollars.
Exploration and design works – around 50 million dollars.

Federal State Unitary Enterprise «Rosmorport» is a customer of the federal part of the project – reconstruction of approach way. Dredging and reclaim works will be carried by the Consortium that consists of six leading companies – «Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors BV», CJSC «Engineering corporation «Transstroy», CJSC «Baltdraga», «PTPS» Corporation» Ltd, CJSC «Port Fleet», CJSC «Baltic Dredging Company».

I have heard a lot about cruises in the Baltic between Russia and Finland / Sweden / Denmark. How is that sector doing? How many passengers does St. Petersburg handle a year?
