Thailand stun India in tie-breaker to clinch 7th place in Asian Men’s U23 Championship
Quote:
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, May 20, 2015 - Thailand turned the table on India, producing an impressive come-from-behind 3-2 (20-25 23-25 25-22 25-19 16-14) victory over India to finish 7th place in the inaugural Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium Hall B yesterday.

Thailand, which were beaten twice by hosts Myanmar in this top-notch tournament including the Tuesday’s 5th-8th playoffs, got off to a good start to initially lead 5-1 in the first set. India appeared confident of winning the match as compared tactically and technically, the experienced Indians are much stronger than the Thais.

As expected, India took the first two sets 25-20 25-23. However, the second set was not that easy for the Indians, as Thailand fielded a 193cm setter Mawin Maneewong and Nara Jankaew to score seven points in a row before going down 23-25. Thailand found their touch in the third set when they led from the start to finish, winning 25-22 to trail 1-2.

Myanmar finish fifth in Asian Men’s U23 Championship after winning historic match against Japan
Quote:
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, May 20, 2015 - Hosts Myanmar delighted a large crowd of cheering home fans packing the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium Hall B as they pulled off a stunning 3-2 (23-25 25-22 25-17 19-25 15-13) victory over formidable Japan in the fifth-place playoff on Wednesday.

Japan, which outclassed India in straight sets the previous day, played confidently despite the nerve-wracking noisy sections at the venue. Naoya Takano’s powerful attack hits carried Japan to a commanding 20-17 lead. Myanmar, spearheaded by hard-attacking Aung Thu, hit back to come close at 23-21. However, the hosts’ fightback did not last long as Japan continued their good run to take the hard-fought first set 25-23.

Boosted by home supporters, Myanmar put their acts together in the second set. With Aung Thu frustrating the Japanese defence with his exceptional spikes and Thwin Htoo Zin and Do Mae Ni Ko establishing solid blocks, the host side took the close set 25-22.

Chinese Taipei repeat similar feat against China to claim third place in Asian Men’s U23 Championship
Quote:
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, May 20, 2015 - Fired-up Chinese Taipei overpowered China in dramatic four sets 27-25 25-21 21-25 25-23 to finish third place at the inaugural Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at the Wunna Theikdi Indoor Stadium Hall B on Wednesday.

Chinese Taipei, which had already beaten China 3-1 in their pool plays earlier, fielded a strong line-up including left-hander Wu Tsung-Hsuan and twin brothers, Liu Hung-Min and Liu Hong-Jie, while China were helmed by the two towers, Tang Chuanhang and Mao Tianyi, both of them stand the similar 200cm tall, and hard-hitting Jin Zhihong.

Chinese Taipei and China got the first set of the crucial match to determine the third place of the top-flight tournament off with almost the similar standard which saw both teams open up their aggression and mighty attacks from the beginning. At 22-22, Chinese Taipei flexed their muscles to attack devastatingly to surge ahead China 24-23.

Iran reign supreme in Asian Men’s U23 Championship after powering past Korea in thrilling showdown
Quote:
Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, May 20, 2015 - Powerhouses Iran made history on Wednesday to become the first team which emerged as the Asian Men’s U23 champions after pulling off a pulsating 25-16 25-21 25-21 victory over Korea in the final showdown of the inaugural Asian Men’s U23 Volleyball Championship at the Wunner Theikdi Indoor Stadium Hall B.

Iran and Korea have already qualified for the 2015 FIVB Men’s U23 World Championship, due to take place in Dubai, the UAE from August 24 to 31, as both sides set up a final showdown in the top-fight competition which guaranteed them to be the Asia’s top two teams to get a nod from FIVB to join the fray in Dubai.

Against Korea in the showdown, Iran fielded the same aggressive line-up which overpowered Chinese Taipei 3-2 in the semi-finals the previous day including Fallah Z.L Mohammad, Fayazi Damnabi Purya, who competed in the gold-winning Iran team at the last year’s Asian Games in Incheon, Korea, Hosseinabadi Javad and Manavinejad Mohammad Javad. Korea relied on Jung Jiseok, Jeong Donggeun and Kim Inhyeok.

Powerful Iran stun USA in World League Volleyball
Quote:
Tehran, Iran, June 19, 2015 – In-form Iran cruised past the USA in hard-fought three set 25-19, 29-27, 25-20 in the sixth week at Azadi indoor Hall in Tehran to gain three crucial points from the last year’s World League champions.

Before the game both teams were expecting a tough duel, but the strong visitors came up with below-par service and the Iranians then did their utmost to take advantage by pushing the opponents to the limit. The home side imposed a big surprise to the USA by beating them in what could be their best finish ever in clashes with the USA. Iran will now now look forward to the second home encounter on Sunday.
