Here's some info from that article...

Quote:
The court will seek engineering designs now that a $760,000 study has concluded the project is challenging yet doable. Officials want the creek to be a linear urban park, retaining its flood-control role while providing new recreational amenities like those on the river's Museum Reach and Mission Reach.

Right-of-way would have to be acquired and myriad stakeholders consulted, but construction could start in 2016. By 2018, the creek would have walkways, landscaping and perhaps a performance venue in the stretch between Fox Tech High and South Alamo Street.

“The court demonstrated through their work on the Museum Reach and Mission Reach that flood control projects can be done in a way that not just saves lives but actually enhances the quality of life for everyone who touches it,” said County Manager David Smith.

Smith said the county has $125 million available to launch the effort.

SAN ANTONIO FEDERAL COURTHOUSE

Quote:
San Antonio, TX

A GSA Design Excellence project, the new San Antonio Courthouse is designed to generate civic pride and a dignified presence that captures the cultural spirit of San Antonio through its use of local vernacular and natural materials.

The project replaces an outdated courthouse with a modern, 110,000-square-foot state of the art facility. A key element of our design focuses on interior courtyard and connection to the adjacent San Pedro Creek. The $85 million project is currently in design development and slated for completion in 2016.

Here's a map I made detailing both the urban segment of the Riverwalk (blue) and the 1.5 mile segment of the San Pedro Creek (red) that will become a linear park.

San Pedro Creek project borrows from River Walk
Quote:
Posted on 05/21/2013 by Benjamin Olivo

Dropping in on the Express-News editorial board meeting on Monday, listening to the county’s pitch for major improvements to San Pedro Creek, it occurred to me that this could be a meeting between any local government and any newspaper in any U.S. city.

How do you revive an urban channel and make it into something like … the River Walk?

What they’re calling Villa Lagunilla, around the inlet next to Fox Tech, is a revived ecosystem, teeming with indigenous flora and fauna, lined with trees, lily pads throughout and swans and frogs and stuff. It’s beautiful. And that’s the same natural approach the county took with the Mission Reach.

Near the Alameda Theatre, dubbed Salon de Alameda, they’re toying with the idea of creating a theater similar to the Arneson River Theatre, where the stage is on one side of the water, and the seating on the other.

And then you have Canal Principal, more southwest near the smaller hotels, which doesn’t resemble anything on the River Walk. The county folks compared it to The High Line elevated park in New York.

County officials said $125 million has been identified through “existing debt capacity.” The other $50 million to complete the project could come from investments from property owners’ along the creek, private funds, or the city of San Antonio.

The process of a request for qualifications for a design team is expected to be approved at today’s Commissioner’s Court meeting. The county hopes to have the design consultant selected by August or September, and for the design to be completed by fall or winter of 2015.

Construction, which could start in 2016, is expected to take two years.

Henry Terrell Building sold to Las Vegas-based investment group
Quote:
By Valentino Lucio, Staff Writer
Published 6:54 pm, Tuesday, May 21, 2013

A Las Vegas investment group finalized a deal for a historic building downtown that was slated to become a mixed-use project with apartments.

Trustees on behalf of the Siskind Family Trust, a Las Vegas-based entity, closed on the Henry Terrell Building, at North Alamo and Third streets.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. The new ownership entity could not be reached to discuss its plans for the three-story brick building, which was built in 1908.

Before the sale, there were plans for about 10 apartments and retail space on the ground floor. The developer, Mitch McManus of Uptown Interests, decided to sell because of high renovation costs and the lack of parking.

McManus added that he's looking aggressively to develop another mixed-use project downtown.
I wonder what will become of that building.

So I was in San Antonio yesterday, saw some cool construction going on as I walked down the Riverwalk.

First one was on Lexington Ave, and the second one was a little closer to the Art Museum (which was awesome, BTW)

Sorry for the bad quality, I used my phone.
