Read somewhere that Punjab govt is planning to convert the Lahore MBS route to light rail in near future...
that is the long term plan. From Kasur to kala shah kaku, ligh rails will run using this MBS route. Furthermore, at Shahdra, the track will separate and one side will go to sheikhapura and other will go to kala shah kaku. When this happens, nearly half of the stations on current track will close down.

So there are two different projects for northern Lahore under consideration right now:

1) Shahdara - Kala Shah Kaku elevated expressway which also includes extension of MBS line and interchange at Shahdara mor.

2) New road from Kala Shah Kaku to Lakhoder (commonly known as Eastern bypass) which also includes a new bridge on Ravi.

This thread is for project no. 1, mentioned above!

Both these projects along with other projects have been mentioned in PDWP report last year

They are going to construct a new road starting from kalashahkaku interchange at GT road to Lakhodero at ring road. For this purpose a new bridge on ravi will also b constructed which is named as Mughal e Azam bridge gate way of Lahore some 3.2 kms away from Shahdra ravi bridge. On the other hand they are going to construct a new bypass from Gujranwala to Mohlanwal through Sheikhupura and Sharaqpur. Similarly, the road from kala shah kaku to Shahdara will also b up graded as an express way. It is expected that by these measures traffic problems of the main entry point of Lahore could be tackled.

Now that Lahore is getting a subway line, any chance some of the lines get converted in the future? A lot of it seems to be easily convertible.

Not any time soon, provincial government wants to build similar brt system in other cities first.

I expected that but I hope it is a possibility down in the future. Lahore essentially built some of the systems ahead of time.

Super impressive! Congrats Lahore. One of the best I've seen.

What is commendable is that there are escalators to climb (will definitely encourage people; pedestrians hate climbing up and down every now and then) and fixed right of way for the buses. They even have their own own elevated track!!! Super cool. And as mentioned this can easily become an LRT.
