don't be surprised if it does. hochtief is pleased with the turnover. we're three years ahead of their expectations, so don't be surprised if plans are put on the table for another expansion.

note: for some reason the numbers at the bottom dont show up from the powerpoint presentation. 02 is the first year and 09 is the ending year

that was their predicted passenger growth. we have 08 passenger numbers in 05

Overseas visitors to Albania hit record in summer

A record number of overseas visitors came to Albania in the past summer, reaching well over 550,000 people, an Albanian official said on Monday.

Eris Hozha, director of the National Tourism Organization, explained that the increasing numbers of visitors are attracted by Albania's well reserved cultural heritage.

"Albania is home to the internationally renowned archeological sites, such as the Butrint National Park, the country's Stone City of Gjirokastra and its 2500-year-old city of Berati," he said, adding that Berati is expected to be granted World Heritage site status in 2007.

He said that after the new terminal at the Tirana International Airport is completed in early 2007, an even greater number of visitors will come to Albania.

Albania is a small, mountainous country, boasting some of the wildest mountain scenery in Europe. It has a least built-up coastline of 150 miles in the Mediterranean region.

the article states, "A record number of overseas visitors came to Albania in the past summer, reaching well over 550,000 people, an Albanian official said on Monday.". those are passenger numbers from june to september i'm assuming as that is the summer season, or am i wrong? your article states, "In total, the number of passengers flying from and to TIA from January until June 2006 is 368,718.". I just added these two numbers together. perhaps i misinterpreted the article i posted. when Eris Hozha said "this past summer" i assumed june-september

seems like a small traffic for the capital of the country, how many airlines operate there and how many direct connections you get from Tirana airport?

New airport terminal near Tirana in time for spring

(ANSA) - TIRANA - The new "Mother Teresa'' international airport terminal in Rinas, near Tirana, is set to become a new hub for tourists and for international trade connections.
The German-American Airport Partners company invested 50 million euros in the project. The idea is to create a well-functioning, modern airport , equipped with the same cutting-edge technology found in the most advanced Western airports.
Airport Partners predicts that, in 2007, the new airport will be able to boast up to one million passengers. The number of passengers in the new Tirana airport may eventually grow to three million people.
The same German-American company is also building a road connecting the new airport with Albania 's capital.

Low-cost Italian airline starts flights to Albania

TIRANA, Albania: The low-cost Italian airline company Myair began flying to Albania on Friday, becoming the fourth low-cost carrier with routes to the tiny Balkan country, according to the Tirana airport's managing company.

Myair will run three flights a week between Bari, Italy, and the Albanian capital, Tirana.

"It is always a positive sign when airline companies start operating new direct routes. I am pleased that the Albanians living in Italy will now have the opportunity to fly home through other destinations for December festivities," said Constantin von Alvensleben of the Tirana Airport Partners, a consortium of an Albanian-American firm and two German companies that manages Tirana's Mother Teresa International Airport.

The airport is used by 14 airlines, with flights departing for 25 international destinations.

I am very excited we're getting direct flights with Brussels now.
Here's a list of major cities in Europe that have direct flights with Rinas:

- London
- Istanbul
- Rome
- Athens
- Frankfurt
- Sofia
- Belgrade
- Ljubljana
- Budapest
- Milan
- Vienna

A bit surprising we have no direct flights with either Zagreb or Sarajevo.

I read an article of bosnian ambassador to Tirana that mentioned how Albania hasnt done anything to promote its tourism in Bosnia & Hercegovina.
He is right. Our idiot tourism administration concentrates in promoting Tourism only in Kosovo and Macedonia instead of doing a broader regional promotion.
