Suntrust Building to be lit Green and Gold for Fri Night Game for USF

SunTrust building lights up for USF BullsTampa Bay Business Journal

Football team rivalry leads to sell-out [Tampa Bay]
After a decade, world-class soccer set to return to Tampa [Tampa Bay]
Make way for one more large addition to the University of South Florida's football bandwagon -- a 36-story building, to be precise.

SunTrust Financial Centre, the fourth-largest office tower in downtown Tampa, will be lit in green and gold Friday night for USF's nationally televised game versus West Virginia University.

The building, which opened in 1992, uses lighting gel lenses to colorize its distinctive ziggurat in recognition of local sports teams, events and causes.

SunTrust Financial Centre was purchased last week in a joint venture between Stiles Capital Partners and Macquarie Office Trust for $117.5 million. Jones Lang LaSalle brokered the deal, which was one of the most expensive local office transactions on record at roughly $225 a square foot.

USF, currently ranked in the top 25 of two college football polls, is garnering support from various segments of the community. Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio declared Friday "Green and Gold Day" and asked citizens to wear team colors.

The Bulls' game versus WVU at Raymond James Stadium is sold out, yet will be shown locally on ESPN2 with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m.

It would be cool if some other DT buildings had lighting schemes capable of getting in on the act... I wonder if the building codes allow for such lighting schemes to be considered 'public art' for the purposes of meeting such requirements?

I was going to try but then I realized it will surely be on ESPN tonight. Probably with a much tighter angle than I could capture. And in HD to boot.

I saw it last night as I drove home from Sarasota... It looked great, but I didn't have my camera with me. :-(

As the pics show, I always wish that they would also change the lights illuminating the 'suntrust' base of the ziggurat as well...
