Some of you might know (especially ozscrapers) i am a model maker with Sydney city council. Ive helped build the Sydney model which started 15 years ago. I also have built a large display in our foyer which has worlds tallest buildings/towers plus other tall structures + Australian scrapers.
heres some pix

which took 12 years to make!

ive many foam dislpays

towers display
all scale 1;1000

ASTOR MODEL-this lights up, was made for 80th anniversy

my australian church display which took 4 years to make!now on display in Sydney's St Marys cathedral-100 models all 1;775 scale

some models ive made for sale to scraper buffs!

made this for local school (my daughters)

my sand/timber model of QVB used in add-

models of Titanic and Queen Mary 2

jahre viking

my sons HO model train set-

I also love to draw. Im actually compiling a book on the History of tall structures in Australia.

heres some-

oz tallest 2005-

small part of 5ft long Melbourne panorama 1901

solar tower diagram-

Australia's tallest res towers progression

my tree-

i love to do "quick comparison drawings"

as you can see i love my tall bldgs in any format!

I think these are absolutely fantastic.

I'm always so very impressed with these models. When we see the local model's in our city we wonder at the luck of the jammy sods that actually earn a living from doing something they so very much enjoy!

Two things i always wanted to know: what are they made of and how do you put them together so neatly?

thanks again guys!
The models i make are basically made from solid timber (gelutong) or custom wood (MDF). I use ZAP super glue and add small plastic stips for details (balconies or columns).I sometimes clad the solid core with 1mm plywood or styrene.
I shape the bldgs with firstly bandsaw and then large sanding disc. Also use stanley knife and sand paper. Its basically alot of carpentry. we then paint the models with prima and car duco.
Some models take long (some cathedrals took a month) while others are quick.
cheers

All your models and drawings are superb, you obviously have a great deal of passion and pride in what you do and it shows. Apart from that your extremely knowledgable and it seems to me you could quote the height for hundreds of skyscrapers of the top of your head!
