SHGs showcase products at expo
An exhibition of products made by Women Self-Help Groups, is on display at Mother Teresa Women’s Complex, Nungambakkam. It is organized by Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation. Over 40 SHGs from districts such as Theni, Villupuram, Thiruvanamalai, Salem, Thanjavur, Dharmapuri, Kancheepuram, and Coimbatore have put up stalls, displaying their products at the exhibition.
Out of the 50 stalls , a transgender has put up a stall, and displayed flower vase, necklace, and beads. Scented candles, key chain holders, carpets, towels, ‘Kolu Dolls’, letter bags, cotton saris, kolam stickers, pooja items, and home-made chocolates, ceramic items, soft toys, wooden artefacts, jute bags, key chains, ear rings, herbal products, handicrafts, and household articles have also been displayed.
The expo titled “Navarathiri-Deepaavali” is aimed at marketing the products made by the members of self-help groups, and to enable them to meet the prospective buyers.
The exhibition was declared open last week by Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women, Managing Director, P. Amudha, I. A. S., in the presence of Indian Bank, General Manager, M. Kathiresan.
The exhibition is open to the public from October 12 to November 4, from 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. on all days including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
There are 5.81 SHGs across the State. Each SHGs has a membership of minimum 12 to maximum 20 women members.
Under the second phase from October 20 to 26, SHGs from Pudhukottai, Tiruvarur, Thiruvallur, Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tiruchchirappalli, and Madurai, and Oct 27 to November 4, Chennai, Ramanathapuram,
Tirunelveli, Cuddalore, Vellore and Sivaganga will display their products.
