I recommend not to miss Váci utca (street), I was not there when I was in Budapest, but Budapest is all beautiful, I like especially the bridges and the parliament, but also the parks.

Also, there is a lot of beautiful churches, for example Szent István-bazilika, I loved it and also the view to the city from top.

Welcome to Budapest, БЛ!
I suggest you to visit the Castle district at the evening when it is already dark, so you can see the lights of the city, it is really nice. You can not be wrong too if you choose the downtown on the Pest side. If you are looking for nightlife, I suggest the Nagymező utca and its vicinity, with wide choice of clubs. Hope you'll enjoy your stay,a nd come back once for a longer visit

what to do? you can go shopping ( ) in the centre - Váci is a shopping street. There's lots of things to do besides shopping - you can go for a walk on Margitsziget - a beautiful island North of the Parliament, you can walk around the streets near Oktogon and Andrássy ut - it's one of my favourite regions in the city. Go to a museum, visit a gallery if you like - there's plenty of everything.

One day in Budapest is not enough. One week is.

You ought to remember if you are trying to visit the Hungarian Parliament (from the inside), be prepared to spend an hour or two waiting in line if you are looking for a guided tour in English.

If you don't mind not understanding the guided tour, you could try to sign up for a tour in Hungarian, since lines are shorter for Hungarians (for obvious reasons).

Other than that, I suggest the Matthias Church/Fisherman's Bastions, Gellert Hill, Vaci Street (but not for shopping!), and perhaps even Andrassy Avenue and Heroes' Square. Don't forget to take the Millenium Underground either.

As for hotels, someplace outside the city center but near a metro station would be the best idea (although I never visited Budapest as a tourist, so I can't tell).

I think the best places to eat are around Oktogon and Liszt Ferenc square. There's good fast-foods (Friday's,Subway,Burger King,McDonald's) and very good cafés/restaurants (Planet Sushi,Buena Vista,Incognito,Carma,Vian,Pesti Est etc. ...) and my favourite pleasure-grounds is here too.

But if you want to sightseeing, the buses start from Andrássy avenue 3.

If you don't see so much about Budapest: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=404018

The Váci street is very beautiful but not good for shopping...

I know there is a really good (and cheap) Turkish Restuarant on the Large Ring Road (but I forgot where exactly) called "Szerály", where you simply walk in and serve yourself (like in a Swedish table).

The Millenium Underground is the yellow (first) subway line in Budapest, denoted as "M1". It was the second subway line in the world (after London), and was built in 1896. It an UNESCO world heritage site.

The Millenium Underground extends from Vörösmarty square to beyond Heroes' Square. You can visit a lot of inner city Budapest (Pest actually), by simply taking a look at the surroundings for each station.

Fáradt voltam, de különben is, külföldön nöttem fel, úgyhogy a helyesírásom nem a legjobb.

De köszönöm, hogy korrigáltad a hibámat.
