Im happy for Palawan for her future growth and development. I just hope that napaghandaan na ng local govt authorities ang influx of these developments. There should be a Comprehensive Development MasterPlan (land use) para ma-regulate and ma-control naman. Moreso, sana may zoning ordinance na sila para talaga maging legally enforceable ang plan. I dont want Palawan to get too excited with all these developments to the point na wala nang land use control. Kahit ano pwede itayo sa kahit saan. Kung sa mall nga, may zoning din, di ba? Mas gaganda ang Palawan kung may Masterplan. Sana lang, nde ma-sa-sacrifice ang natural resources in expense of commerce and trade.

I love Palawan!

=> TOMOH!!! Progress and heritage [wether cultural, natural or any tangible heritage], should go hand in hand.. Many cities lost their real allure and beauty due to rapid reckless commercialization..

one thing i could say, puerto princesa has seen a slow progress despite its tourism potentials.
imo, there is really no real threat to the heritage of the city despite the recent economic gains.
puerto princesa's land area is as big as davao city with a population of only around 250,000. tourists spots such as the underground river and honda bay are far from the city proper. the former is hours away by land and the latter is accessible only by boat. if you have been to puerto princesa, you would see why its called a "city in the forest." if you have seen the google pic of where the robinsons is currently being built, you will see that the immediate area is not even developed.
brownout is still a problem in the city. i was told that when robinsons was in the planning stage of building the mall, the local electric cooperative allegedly said it has no capacity to supply the electrical needs of the mall.
imo, this mall and the countless other ongoing constructions in the city will only affect us in a good way and will redound not only for our benefit but also for the benefits of the surging number of visitors who are visiting our city.

Robinsons to open shopping mall in Palawan
Posted on January 20, 2011 01:26:08 PM | BREAKING NEWS

GOKONGWEI-LED property developer Robinsons Land Corp. has started building its first shopping mall in the Southern Luzon province of Palawan.
Commercial operations at the 31st Robinsons mall in the country will start late this year, Robinsons Land said in a statement on Thursday.

The new full-service mall is being built on a 19-hectare lot at the National Highway in Barangay San Manuel, Arlene G. Magtibay, general manager of Robinsons Malls, said in the statement.

"Robinsons Land also plans to develop a residential subdivision and the Puerto Princesa branch of gohotels.ph," the property firm said.

Last year, Robinsons Land began the construction of its first shopping mall in the Northern Luzon province of Pangasinan as part of its P9-billion capital spending program.

Shares in the property developer -- whose profit for the fiscal year 2010 that ended in September grew by a tenth to P3.59 billion -- closed P0.28 lower at P13.48 apiece on Thursday. -- Neil Jerome C. Morales

Robinsons puts up mall in Palawan

MANILA, Philippines—Gokongwei-led Robinsons Land Corp. is set to open this November a new shopping complex in Puerto Princesa City, the first full-service mall in the province of Palawan, which is known for its pristine beaches and other natural attractions like the Underground River.

Robinsons Place Palawan will be the 31st in RLC’s growing chain of full-service and specialty malls, which are all located in strategic locations or part of mixed-use developments.

The property company announced Thursday the ground-breaking for the new mall in a press statement. Robinsons Malls’ general manager Arlene Magtibay said the new mall was now being built on a 19-hectare lot along the National Highway in Barangay (village) San Manuel where RLC also planned to develop a residential subdivision and the Puerto Princesa branch of budget hotel chain Gohotels.ph.

The mall will have a gross floor area of over 30,000 square meters in two levels. It will feature a wide variety of retail shops and restaurants, as well as entertainment and recreational facilities.

Robinsons Place Palawan will be the first establishment in Puerto Princesa to offer cinema facilities. It will also feature al fresco dining and wellness centers that will cater to both local residents and tourists, the statement said.

The Palawan mall is located within 5-15 minutes away from the Puerto Princesa airport, town proper, municipal hall, public markets, bus station, provincial capitol and the Philippine State University. It is also 30 minutes away from the sea port.

The mall property is also a few minutes away from famous tourists spots such as Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center, the Crocodile Farm, Bakers Hill, Mitra Farm, Plaza Cuartel, and Immaculate Conception Cathedral.—Doris C. Dumlao

while that is the location of the mall which is currently being built, i am not certain as to the exact extent of the whole property. i just based my estimate to the lot boundaries seen in the ground and the google earth.

as stated in the press release, the land area of the property is 19 hectares. most probably, the go hotel and the subdivision will be located there.

if you noticed in the google earth, the lot was a mango farm with matured mango trees. a friend who lives in the area said monkeys were seen roaming around the area seemingly disturbed and displaced by the round the clock construction.

Really? That means this is a priority project. Normally, it takes a lot of discussions and approvals whenever a tree will be cut even if it is for a road project. Maybe RLC will plant trees somewhere as people there are required to plant trees in lieu of a falling tree by purpose.

^ there are no discussions about the trees being cut because its in private land. if you look at the map, the trees are way inside the property. so nobody could argue it shouldn't be cut because there isn't even an easement to invoke, unlike when the tree is within a legal easement as when its a road widening project.
