The "heart" Expo City, a symbol of the exhibition will be the central pavilion of Kazakhstan - the building of several floors with a total area of 24,000 m2, which is a huge sphere with a diameter of about 150 meters. On just such a visual solution architects inspired by the idea that the ball - one of the most common forms in nature due to its optimal material distribution and structural efficiency. The image of the Kazakhstan Pavilion allows you to draw inspiration from nature, shape the future of ecological design, influenced by the shape and the local weather conditions.

I totally dislike the obsession with huge scales. The proportions of the whole project are just not human scaled. All that space could definitely have been used much more wisely. Th "green" city doesn't look quite green to me. The conception that we need to have cities with HUGE parks and grass everywhere and huge open areas (most of which turn out to be purposeless) was really popular half a century ago but proved to be quite misoriented, and it's a shame so many architects still think it's the model of city for the future. In that kind of cities cars end up being the centre of the development, the neighbourhoods homogeneous, the streets and distances not walkable and the spatial distribution inefficient.

My advice in this case would be: smaller scales (much much much smaller!), less "green" space (patches of grass everywhere); moderately sized but optimized parks thought to be used and enjoyed by people; narrower streets thought with people and not cars in mind; maintaining traditional blocks, with buildings directly facing the streets and maybe courtyards in the middle; raising building footprint and reducing to a minimum the waste of space. Only this way can we build cities which are enjoyable, lively, walkable and not car-dependant. Sorry if I went off-topic, but looking at the model I just wanted to state my opinion on what I see as well intentioned, yet misguided developments.

Ambassador EXPO 2017
Dmitry Petrukhin is a passionate traveler. For him traveling isn’t about a lazy vacation on a beach, but a wonderful journey where the wanderer overcomes obstacles and explores new worlds. He mounts his motorcycle in any weather and place, and takes on a next trip! His travels usually last for many months.
