70 Mark Lane | City of London | 63m | 17 fl | T/O

To be built speculatively by Schroders, this will occupy a site on the east of Mark Lane, next to Fenchurch St. station. The well located site is currently occupied by a scrubby mixture of low rises and one relatively attractive, but shabby, dark blue curtain-walled fifties block.

Looks OK

20 Fenchurch looks good in that shot.

Although the only thing that doesn't really is PLANTATION PLACE

p.s. is that Broadgate, right?

not new at all, but as jef did a post on it and i realised we never wrote about it on skyscrapernews despite it having been around for donkey's years... combined with the quiet festive season, why the hell not
will it will face towards tower bridge.

The design has been kicking around for ages, but the actual commencement of the project is breaking news.

Not bad, like the sloping roof, shame it isn't that little bit taller, say 8 - 10 floors more.

I agree I also like the sloping roof but they should of designed it a bit taller.

Hey Monters- where did you find the pic of the model? Was there also a pic of the view from the south?

I posted a pic of that & the view from the southbank a long time ago but i can't remember where -i think it was probably in the London project threads but seeing now there 1000 posts & about 50 pages long I cant for the life of me find it (memo to mods- any chance of having at least the official London projects thread back to 500 posts as its a nightmare if you want to find something when there's over 50 pgs ).

Anyway it showed the building more in size to the other mid-rises around Fenchurch St & suites the area &doesn't appear as big or bulky as the mock up here.

I think this fits in nicely with the skyline. Any taller and Willis and T42 would 'soar' less in the above view. I think it would be good if the slope was a solar panel but I suspect it won't be....

I like this midrise. It's simple and straight to the point. And adds to the cluster nicely.

saw the site this week, and the old building (a 1950s - 1960s) stone block is now half shrouded in scaffolding with hoardings around the base. The current building will be demolished by mid 2007 I expect.

Just on Skyscrapernews I think - haven't sen any other photos. I think it's quite a nice addition, and the block it occupies is almost completely disused at the moment so it seems like a good idea to regenerate what is, after all, quite a prime site.

It was a bizarre building. Four seperate facades from different eras sandwiched together. Not exactly sheddding a tear at its demise.

Planning docs online

http://www.planning.cityoflondon.gov...=06/01144/FULL

From Tower Bridge

South Bank (With all the UNESCO talk IMO Tower place ruins the view far more than the taller buildings- it needed to be 1 or 2 storeys shorter)

Outside Fenchurch St Station

Looking at these official renderings I find it rather boring to be honest, and it blocks part of SwissRe from one of the best places to see it. Let's be honest, it doesn't do much at street level either - just another cold and corporate glass block.
