That area will be incredibly impressive if the Hyatt group can get another 18 story building built in the same vicinity as the Quay projects. I just hope it ends up being the walkable open lifestyle build out that was envisioned so many years ago.

Hope so as well, especially with the future redevelopment of the Van Wezel area. Really highlights the urgency for improved pedestrian connectivity between downtown and the bayfront.

Yes, in that regard will this development encourage and welcome people to walk through between the Hyatt and it's new building or impede that forcing walkers to go out to 41 to get over to the Van Wezel area from the old Quay area? That's an important question that will need to be asked of the developers.

Atlanta Braves break ground on spring training complex

It took local officials and Atlanta Braves executives more than two years to negotiate and finalize a plan to build a new spring training complex in North Port.

Now the team and construction crews have just 16 months to actually build it.

The race to the Braves’ first pitch in February 2019 officially began Monday when local officials and team executives formally broke ground on the site of the planned $100 million stadium complex in the West Villages.

Selby Gardens Unveils $67 Million Long-Term Site Plan

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens on Monday released details of a 10-year, $67 million master site plan created to increase green space at the gardens by 50 percent and to protect its scientific collection from sea level rise. The plans, developed by the landscape architecture studio Olin, include the removal of some non-historic older buildings and the construction of a five-story parking structure with a garden and rooftop restaurant, a new welcome center, research and support facilities and more. The first phase of the project—which includes the parking facility and garden, the welcome center and the collections facility—is estimated to cost $35 million.

Looks great in person too, has a great street level presence. There was a setback with the phase 2 liner building around Pineapple Park, held up until they settle a title dispute, hopefully that gets settle soon and they can start construction.

Developers of Sandcastle Resort property were in front of the City Commission Monday to get approval for a modification of the existing seawall.

Quote:
LIDO KEY — The group redeveloping the historic and eccentric Sandcastle Resort at Lido Beach is requesting modifications to the property’s seawall as part of the new hotel plans.

The modification will be necessary to accommodate the footprint of the planned 304-room hotel spanning two curved towers that will be nine- and 10-stories tall on Ben Franklin Drive, near Lido’s south end.

The City Commission will consider the seawall request during its evening meeting beginning at 6 p.m. today in City Hall.

My understanding is the plan is to build the residential tower as well as the waterfront park and some restaurants/retail as part of the first phase as seen in this site plan.

A couple of things currently going through the approval process that haven't been mentioned in a while:

1st and Audubon Townhomes

Icon Residential's third Sarasota townhome project will soon be going in front of the Development Review Committee. 32 units neighboring their Artisan on Main project currently under construction.

Palsar Development/Marriott Hotel & Residences

This project at the corner of US 41 and Fruitville is going back in front of the Development Review Committee and is again a hotel/residential project according to the filed documents. It was unclear what changes have been made from the below in previous applications.

They are two different projects. The similarity is probably due in part to the fact that the developers behind BLVD used to be a part of the team developing the Marriott project. Not sure what architectural changes have been made in this latest attempt, and I was somewhat surprised to see it back, thought it may have died.
