I've long thought the same thing but chalked up most of my admiration to familiarity; I live downtown. It's nice hearing the same sentiments from a non-Torontonian as I've often wonder if I would feel the same way if I was from some place else.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's amazing how much and how quickly Toronto has been transformed. Consider the recent photos in this thread compared to the one below of Toronto in 2004.

It really is. There's something about the skyline that makes it aesthetically pleasing; the geometry is about right, the shape of the buildings, the natural surroundings, and then the marvelous CNT crowning the city. I don't know, there's just something about Toronto that leaves me in awe, I've been in love with this city ever since I first stepped on it.

It does have a ton of interesting features: the CBD, the islands, the port, the beaches, the island airport, the ravines, and the street grid. North American street grids in big cities fascinate me. When these cities build a lot of skyscrapers everything looks so organized. Toronto's skyscrapers are built right out to the lot line so you get an intensely packed sea of them and some amazing street canyons. A 12 year building boom doesn't hurt either.

All of these qualities make Toronto captivating. I never get bored looking at it.

Shame about the girthier Ten York obstructing ICE II. I was digging the pencil aesthetic.

At this pace (with no signs of slowing) Toronto will have a larger skyline than Chicago in the not so distant future and there will be no looking back. The Toronto metro area already has many more high rises than Chicagoland. Impressive growth
