Shanghai's New Railway Station!!

The Shanghai South Railway Station is the world's only circular station and the roof has no interior columns to support it, its all from the sides.

Hope Hzkiller doesn't mind me posting it here.

Very impressive station ... how many platforms?

From the absence of trains and passengers in the photos, and the lack ofshine on the top of the rails, I take it this is a totally new "green fields" project. When does it open?

Is it a terminal, or do the lines run under and out the other side? Which lines will it serve?

What else has Shanghai got, and does this replace it?

Yes this is a newly built station, as you can see the marble floors aren't even polished yet and theres still work that needs to be done inside and on the platforms. There should be a total 6 platforms with 12 rails, I don't know if this is a terminal though. The Shanghai Metro will also have a line to this station, If I remember it correctly this is the 3rd Shanghai Railway Station.

This station will not replace any of the existing ones, What else has Shanghai got? Well they have this cool Maglev station plus the new airport terminal at pudong.

Some facts:
The station is located south of Huming Road, north of Shilong Road, east of the would-be Guilin Road and west of Liuzhou Road. It is endowed with a round, transparent roof(the largest of its kind in the world) covering an area of 50,000 square meters, an eye focus in daytime or at night.
The main building is divided into three layers. The middle layer, the ground level, is for platform. Connected with squares in north and south, it is installed with guestroom and police station.

The upper layer, designed for departures, features an overhead round platform of a circumference of 800 meters and contains passages ticket checkup and a big waiting-room that can hold 10,000 people.

The lower layer is for arrivals and equipped with underground exit passages, transit lounge and ticket hall. Besides Trains, this station will also serve as a transportation hub for buses, light track and subway.

This is the other Shanghai Station:

I think we would count that as 12 platforms: and looking at your photos again, the tracks seem to run right through. You didn't tell me when it would open, but I'm very impressed. But your first picture in posting 5?

From what I heard on the news its planning to open by the end of this year or beginning next year. What about the first pic in posting 5? Its just landscaping outside of the station.
