why are these banners posted here? shouldnt they be in this thread: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=72257 ?
anyway, whats going on with the re-design? is there a deadline date for this? how long can we just have a stump in the heart of the city of london? having that stump there for ages probably makes the initial pinnacle design cost effective in comparison. |

How much do you think the height will be cut by? I'm guessing it will still have to be the tallest of the cluster?

I don't think there's any cause to assume that there'll be any height decrease at all at this point. If it's mixed use as was hinted at, it might even be taller.

Why the redesign in the first place? To make it cheaper?

Read an interview with the architect who did st mary who said that a decrease in height and simplification of design was needed. I thought he got the nod to redesign. Sorry if a bit vague as on my phone so can't really check my facts.

A decrease in height could potentially ruin the whole cluster. I hope they dont fuck this up. They may well do though. Bluntly.
If you want a great tower as the pinnacle of the cluster we should be seeing big name architects fighting for the right to design it, unless we're all missing something we have second rate architects being begged to design something. This is London not some second rate city in Alabama. FFS.

I'd say for this particular site height is more important than design in my opinion. The City already has some great architecture but not enough height. We can do just fine with a tall box but its crucial the height at least stays the same if not to be increased.

I don't know about that: it has to have a "pinnacle" feel to it because it will be the zenith of the whole cluster; there has to be some element of spikiness to it's top or else it won't soar in the manner necessary to fulfil it's crucial role.

Here's the article. Says it will still be tallest in the cluster.

Btw what is the height restriction for the city? Or is there anywhere in London we may someday see a building taller than the shard? |
