MELBOURNE Level Crossing Removal Project

I used to dread having to go via the Main Street or Furlong Road crossings at peak times.

The shops facing McKechnie St are still up for lease while the one facing St. Albans Rd are all leased. I know that a restaurant (Asian hot pot) has leased three of the individual spaces to turn it into a big one, not sure about the others.
In regards to parking, I agree that it is very limited...I don't know why they don't make the parking near IGA/in the town centre multiple levels. St. Albans is busy everyday and it's always hard to find parking there.

The new bus interchange is much safer and convenient but I prefer the location of the old one. They should demolish it now that they moved it but instead they are creating a pop-up park surrounding the space.

The Alfreida Street terminus was a disgrace. Should blow it up but I believe it still serves as a homeless shelter.

Stablands is still a dump. I haven't been there for ages.

Love this picture. She won't even be able to see the viaduct because it will be blocked out by her tiny trees.

Didn't you know? All infrastructure magically pops up one night while people sleep soundly through the night with a lovely surprise for them in the morning.

Silly of the governments for not using this magical revealing trick option, shame on them.

I love the westies. Stablands, Knifepoint, Lavertory, Scumshine and Scumbury. We need some new names for Diggers Rest, Hoppers Crossing, Caroline Springs, Melton and Keilor. How about Sheila Plains? A bit like Bris having Depression Bay, Trailer Park, City of Bogan.

I've seen Caroline Springs mentioned as Kerosene Springs! Melton is always Melton though, no need to give it a nickname. :P

Swappers Crossing gets a mention now and then.

Killer, Killer Downs, Killer Plains, Killer Lodge, Killer North, Killer Park, Killer East.

A guy (who is Indian himself) used to be a regular radio caller, and would take the piss saying he's from Mumbai Cook.

Quite a big shutdown coming up for the Dandenong line in less than a fortnight, entire line beyond Westall closed for 6 days including four weekdays. Might see some decent progress happening on the Noble Park section in that time.

Seems a bit illogical to me IMO to close the line during four weekdays then re-open it in time for a 3-day weekend, would have thought the weekday commuter traffic was more important than people going to watch an infernal AFL game

Not level crossing related I think but I suspect this full weekday closure next Monday will catch out a few unaware

Fwiw, this project (Caulfield-Dandenong) is under commercial stress. Lots of talk around the traps

I'm sure LL, PB and friends have made plenty of money out of the government over the years, and will again. Not so worried for their futures.

Not really. Not involved, there's just industry talk. Cost and time overruns and the contract is an Alliance
