Proposed Wisconsin Gas-Fired Plant Would Aid Utilities’ Renewable Initiatives

http://nemadjitrailenergycenter.com/

Quote:
Minnesota Power and Wisconsin’s Dairyland Power Cooperative announced plans to co-develop a combined cycle natural gas–fired power plant, a 550-MW facility designed to provide backup power for the utilities’ efforts to expand their use of renewable energy sources.

The Nemadji Trail Energy Center would be built along the Nemadji River in Superior, Wis., a location adjacent to both utilities’ service territories. The utilities would co-own the facility and divide its electrical power output. The companies said that if regulators approve the plan (a decision is expected sometime in 2018), construction could begin in 2020 and the $700-million plant—each company investing $350 million—could be operational in 2024 or 2025.

Bob Monahan launches Downtown Duluth hostel project

Quote:
Visitors to Duluth can soon add a hostel to the growing number of lodging options available in the Twin Ports. Nightclub owner Bob Monahan and an undisclosed partner purchased the former Garon Brothers Jewelry store at 217 W. First St. and plan to open a 46-bed hostel in the space next spring.

St. Louis County property records show the Nov. 3 purchase price for the three-story, 5,200-square-foot building was $160,000.
Quote:
The year-round, no-frills, communal sleeping space will be the first of its kind in Duluth.

Low season weekday lodging is expected to cost $30 for a single bunk. High season double bunks will cost around $80 a night.

Website for superior street reconstruction that will happen between 2018 and summer 2020.

http://www.superiorstreet.org/

And the website for the mndot messaba ave project. Both projects are going to meet each other at messaba. I'm looking forward to the messaba project because walking between downtown and the western part of town is really bad with the sidewalks how they are.

To make way for a new housing development, demolition of the former Morgan Park Middle School is slated to begin Monday. If weather isn't too severe, Schweiger said construction could begin this winter. He aims to have the first three or four 12-plexes ready for occupancy by the fall of 2018.

Miller Hill apartment complex approaching June opening

Quote:
The District Flats apartment complex near the Miller Hill Mall is well on its way to opening 72 new units of middle-income housing thanks to a private-public partnership spurring on the development. The $14 million project was made possible in part by a $500,000 city and county tax abatement and a $1 million grant from the state.

$10 million upgrade underway at UMD’s Romano Gym

Quote:
The home of UMD basketball, volleyball and more for almost 64 years will be getting its biggest upgrade to date with Monday's announcement of a $10 million renovation.
Quote:
The bulk of the phased reconstruction — the second phase — will take place beginning in March after the start of spring break. Construction will run through September, displacing teams and students throughout that time as a new floor goes in along with the installation of new chair-back lower-level seating and an updated heating and air-conditioning system.

Essentia envisions multimillion-dollar investment in downtown campus

Quote:
Essentia Health plans to make its largest investment ever in its Duluth campus over the next few years.

"We've made important investments in many other locations, and it's now time to do it here," said Jeff Korso, the health system's vice president for operations and administration, during an interview on Wednesday.

Dr. David C. Herman, Essentia's CEO, said it's too early to know exactly how much the health system will spend as it revitalizes the sprawling campus on the east end of Duluth's downtown. But he said it will exceed anything Essentia has spent before anywhere, including the $91 million to build the First Street Building, which was completed in 2006.

Essentia is committed to its present location, Herman said, but the aging campus will get a makeover.
