Is it possible to start the construction of the eastern portion first?

Not till the details of the study come out and LTA have a news conference during one of the opening ceremony announcing the line as up and coming

However, so far the tenders have shown that the engineering and surveying work in the eastern half is a lot more advanced then the western half. Also, the western half will need to wait until the CCNR environment impact study to complete before further engineering studies can be called.

I think that the western part of CRL is actually more critical than the Eastern part because jurong region is a fast growing employment hub and there are also many major projects which requires additional MRT like to support the EWL. e.g. PSA, JLD, JRL and possible HSR.

Furthermore, there is another tender C1003 called 3 weeks ago, which stipulates the requirement to provide topo survey for the 3 areas each 120+ ha in size - "200m wide corridor located in the eastern part of Singapore", so far there has been no news about any topo survey required for the western part.

Yes, i read your earlier post but that could mean many things. Perhaps the proposed landfill site and soil condition in the east require more details studies than the west sites. Or it could also be that CRLw studies needs to be done concurrently with HSR and JRL (especially when the express service will need to stop at all the interchange)

Also there is no reason why LTA will announce the alignment of CRLe separately from CRLw.

I revisited and read your post again and I agree with CHT.

Engineering studies for CRLe are a lot more advanced than CRLw and CCNR as part of the line will run through a former waste landfill in Lorong Halus. It is stated in the tender documents that the waste landfill leachate ponds may still be emitting some methane and may pose some form of health risk to the general public when the works are carried out. Also, we are talking about a line that will run close to the nature park in the same area. So, to minimise potential health and biodiversity risks, the studies will have to be carried out much earlier and more advanced than CRLw to design and implement safety precautions that will be much needed during the planning and construction phases to avoid last minute confusion should there be any incidents that happen near that area which may affect those living near Lorong Halus such as Punggol, Pasir Ris, Tampines and Sengkang.
