This really gives some context in why businesses there are struggling so much right now. Who wants to have breakfast surrounded by construction with sand blowing in your food. I feel for the owners and staff that are put out by this

I should note MRA chose this option. the D&C bids gave a whole array of staged solutions to minimise the impact.

The winning bid was: hit it hard, do it all at once. Short term pain, but finish early.

Will see if it pays off.

Was there yesterday and this situation is absolutely dire. The place is an absolute mess right now, really hard to navigate, sand everywhere, hardly any parking.

People seemed to struggle through though and the place was packed out, but I could see it struggling on weekdays.

There are entire sections that seem like there will be no change or improvement. It's so run down, I felt embarrassed tourists would see it. The whole front of Rendezvous is woeful, missing trees, crappy pavement, no colour or whatever.

They've brightened things up on the fences and put murals around on some temporary structures like shipping ocntainers and I can help but wonder why that type of colourful artwork doesn;t become permanent. Looks fantastic in the places they have it and would liven up the whole district.

At the beach , people want to see beachy artwork, beachy themes and loud colours making a statement.

When they finish the current lot, as far as I'm concerned there's a whole part 2 to do.

Rendezvous should be allowed to convert to apartments and build a new hotel, the absolute wrong move to block that proposal and I hope if it was brought to the government again the new government would take a more open approach to approve it.

Just, so much concrete down there! I really hope they soften the whole feel up.

Nope, trees, planter boxes, verges. Anything but huge expanses of dull concrete. Particularly around the bus interchange, in front of the rendezvous and west coast highway

Phew for a moment there i thought you were a nimby against more concrete and steel.

Yes the landscape definitely needs more soft architecture amongst all that concrete, tar and steel etc...

That bus interchange should eventually also be like put under or inside a building. Like hide it from the ground. Same goes for all those beachfront car parks.... like keep the ones outside with nothing else around the place, but at least a portion of those expansive open air carparks at Hillaries and Scarborough should be hidden from view.

Just came across this survey for the 3 Oceans proposal that I've just completed, if anyone else is keen to put their views across > https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/X5NDHKH

They appear to have a facebook page too - No one can really complain about the lack of community consultation and lengths they've gone too in engaging the public...

Thanks. Completed survey. Posted positive answers. Hope this gets more support than criticism. I want to see it built. Will be good for tourism & will provide much needed eye candy to SSC nerds for at least two years. Cheers

Filled the survey in too. As a local it should help. I mentioned our usual gripes with things like ground level activation (not just in business hours), light rail connection, no tilt up Finbar styled concrete, etc.

I stopped using skyline art like just over one week ago. Skyart posts too much.

PP is trying to start fresh. Post less content. No more smiles. I thought you were joking before about having multiple accounts. Anyway see for your self Skyart hasn't signed in to post since Friday the 14th.

I will go through old posts I don't want and cleared out those comments. Then never use it again. Time for a fresh change. Is this not allowed.

Canary Island Palm trees are the exception.

Cotton palms can also act as good place markers when grouped.

Cocos palms need to be banned for the weeds they are though.

Cotton palms should be burnt on sight (& site)
