Another black eye for the Canadian Football League as one of their prized new stadiums has multi-million dollar lawsuits flying through the uprights:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manito...lems-1.2981173

This coming on the heels of the expensively delayed full opening of Tim Horton's Field in Hamilton. Should happen soon. Should have happened last year.

The bad news hat trick comes from another new CFL park, in Ottawa, where season ticket sales are falling off after the first season of CFL football for the RedBlacks.

Who succeeded the bankrupt Renegades. Who succeeded the bankrupt Rough Riders.

Who'da thunk?

Interesting story on how much the BC Lions pay for renting BC Place. It seems to be a very good deal for the team. Wonder if the Whitecaps have a similar lease...

BC Lions' Rent Contract for Publicly Owned Stadium Finally Public

The BC Lions pay no rent on the first $9 million of net ticket sales to play at BC Place Stadium, according to their contract with BC Pavilion Corporation that was released under freedom of information on April 21.

The contract was inked in fall 2011, after the stadium reopened from a $514-million renovation that included a new retractable roof. In 2013-2014, the public-owned stadium reported its latest annual loss, $13.3 million.

The public release ends a nearly four-year quest for the document that went through two inquiries with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner. An adjudicator dismissed both PavCo and the Lions' fears of financial harm, should the contract be released, as speculative.

Since 2013, the threshold of $9 million in net ticket sales has been tied to inflation and is the first of a six-step rent calculation for the 10 scheduled Canadian Football League home games. After the rent-free $9 million, the Lions are charged 10 per cent on the next million, 12.5 per cent on the next million, 15 per cent on the next million, 17.5 per cent on the next million and 20 per cent on all amounts over $13 million.

The first every sporting event at SMS Stadium at Shell Place in Fort McMurray, Alberta is happening tonight between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

SMS Stadium has 5000 permanent seats but an additional 10,000 temporary seats were added for this game.

Here are a few pics from tonight from Twitter...

I noticed that the Wikipedia article didn't have coordinates for the stadium, so I dug them up and added them.

This is from the pdf file about the new construction at MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray. North is straight up, and the grey area in the upper right is the existing building complex that you can see in the aerial photos of your favorite mapping site. Go to this link, and click on "Final Site Map" for the rest of the pdf.

That's pretty good for a metropolitan area of only 80,000 people.

Lots of new updates from Canada, including Calgary throwing out a hail mary to get a new Arena and Stadium/ Fieldhouse. Pretty preliminary renders and the $890M Cdn price tag and who will pay for it is way up in the air

Don't like that Calgary proposal at all.

Maybe it's practical, but it looks terrible.

I think it will change a ton when it is finally built. The city mentioned they wanted a fieldhouse and that there was money to be put towards it but nothing is final and I think this proposal was to try to secure that money, ultimately I think it will look a lot different when (and not for 7-8 years, IMO) built

If you try to satisfy too many different needs at the same time you end up doing no one thing well. That Calgary proposal is, one in a long line of multi-purpose facilities, that fail the sports they seek to help. Take a lesson from Skydome.
