scene of one of sydneys worst fires
cnr george/Barlow sts July10, 1901 the then Sydneys tallest building,(built 1893) 120ft. Anthony Hordern warehouse Building was gutted by fire. a young man dove to his death from parapet as flames took hold

Great picture!!!! I don't know that I've seen pictures of that block prior to the final Anthony Horderns building (which I'm old enough to have gone into whilst still operating...). Interesting the range of buildings on the site, which I assume was consolidated with the post-fire rebuild?

yes all buuildings were part of horderns complex. after demoliton they moved up the road and started on the 1904 complex which took of most of the block.

Aah, I assumed that was the final Goulburn to Liverpool block rather than the block south?
