There was a hashtag asking Kidero to refurbish City Stadium as he promised in December. Last time i checked the stadium was doing good, what happened?

that stadium has been closed for more than a year now (it was not used for top flight league matches last year) because the pitch became unusable due to age limit of artificial turf and overuse/poor maintaince. But they do maintenance work at Camp Toyoyo turf so maybe it will last longer.
***
To truly revamp that venue would mean kicking out the permanent stall hawkers who sell stuff around there. That will not happen so the only possible refurbishment is the toilet and pitch stuff he mentioned.

KIPCHOGE KEINO STADIUM
Source

Quote:
Kipchoge Keino stadium which had fallen into disrepair and disuse, received a new running track and terraces. In 2016 it hosted the Olympic trials and is set to host the CHAN in 2018. And GFE 105 , a second tier side from Eldoret appear to be in contention to earn promotion to the KPL in 2018.

In February of 2017, additional Ksh 304 Million has already been paid for the second phase of renovation, which includes building the terraces, two pavilions, entry and exits gates, changing rooms and an indoor games hall, will take eight months before completion.

First, apologies for posting a photo that shows a political rally. I had not heard of anything substantial on Narok stadium so when that photo was posted i did some Googling. This photo gives the dias some context while also showing that the stadium has a full perimeter fence.

Government under scrutiny as Kenya faces loss of CHAN tournament hosting rights

http://nairobinews.nation.co.ke/news...oses-chan-bid/
We had CHAN hosting rights but Jubilee chose to play catch up silly politics

CAF has given Kenya one last chance to get ready for CHAN (the August review). It appears Eldoret will not be ready and as such Machakos has been included in facilities due for upgrading.

Remember we predicted this. It feels like 1996 all over again. That CS should have resigned after the Rio Fiasco. He will end up seriously embarrassing this country again.

Remember CECAFA

I don't see us hosting this match. The same last minute disorganization is also plaguing the IAAF U-18 championship at Kasarani that even Japan and the USA pulled out.

Why cant this guys engage previous successful hosters of tournaments to acquire best practices. Dont they appreciate the importance of international sporting events.

As you said, the leadership in the sports ministry is what is lacking. I'm sure if we had a Matiangi leading that ministry, the preparation would have been much better. For whatever reason, the pres. hasn't fired this useless non-performer

He hasn't fired anyone if there wasn't a public backlash about something. It seems only public backlash gets him to reevaluate performance of his cabinet. He should have built at least one decent modern stadium, of all the ones he did promise in his campaign manifesto. That would have saved face for a bit, and shown his commitment to achieving promises and bringing hope to the youth with sporting talent.

Kisumu stadium which missed out on hosting the tournament has never actually been completed.

CS Wario has been poor according to me. I'm sure one 60,000 capacity stadium for $200 million is not beyond us. 4 other stadiums 45,000 capacity of $100 million each in Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Nyeri would do. $600 million spread in 5 years is possible and we can host big tournament's.

On this i spite Uhuru and Ruto, are you trying to tell us that if they desired the stadiums or the games the minister would have stood on their way?
But come to think of it, what is it that Nyayo stadium lacks in terms of hosting international matches?

Indeed, they haven't even moved the dumpsite next to it... really shameful

What even worse he hasn't even updated the sporting standard. Let's be serious we could save more money if we built stadiums without athletic tracks. This could easily be rolled out across to all the counties and then with that done then we can build athletic tracks for international events and such.

Exactly, the Sports Minister doesnt decide which ministries get bigger budget allocations. The people at the top do so as much as we want to blame Wario its honestly not his fault.
