Earlier in this thread
“When I was poor and complained about inequality they said I was bitter. Now that I'm rich and I complain about inequality they say I'm a hypocrite. I'm beginning to think they just don't want to talk about inequality.”

No sure if posted elsewhere, but if not DA A004791465 has gone in to develop the Red Hill Skate Arena into a walk up cinema complex and bowling alley.

The proposal includes 5 cinemas ranging from 38 to 159 (Total 355). It will also include 2 bowling lanes on the ground level. The plans include a kitchen so not sure if that is only for the bowling alley or will also provide food for inside the cinema boxes similar to the Rosalie Blue Room.

It will be named "The Red Hill Pops Cinema" after the original open air cinema on the site named "The Red Hill Picture Pops Theatre". The originals Pops is reported to have stood for "Peoples Own Pictures". (See:

From the DA:
"The Sourris Family were owners of the original building in the 1950’s and intend to resurrect the original name of the building – Red Hill Pops Theatre. The proposed development seeks to build on the memories of local and Brisbane residents, and enable the continued presence of cultural heritage in the community. This includes intangible aspects, such as the social significance to several generations of the local community who have memories enjoying recreational pursuits on the premises. The proposed development secures the future use of the site as a cinema which builds on the historical use of the site. The proposal focuses on restoration and maintenance of key elements of significant cultural heritage including the Enoggera Terrace façade, brick walls, concrete buttresses, terrazzo floor in the entry, arched openings and skate arena floor."

It seems the Enoggera Terrace facade will be restored to include the original arches.

Bravely it is proposed to be a "walk up" cinema for locals and has no car parking.

As someone who lives within walking I'm very happy with the outcome for this site and hope it progresses.

I hope the no parking concept doesn't lead to trouble for those locals who live in adjacent streets. Despite being very small cinemas in a densely populated area, I'm not sure if there are enough people within walking distance, or willing to use PT, to keep it afloat without parking? I hope so.

Its great that Brisbane is able to support so many profitable successful lower-priced alternatives to the market dominance of Event Cinemas.
