EgyptAir assigns larger plane for Syria flights

Head of EgyptAir Ayman Nasser said that larger planes would head to Damascus and Aleppo to accommodate larger numbers of Egyptians and Syrians wishing to return to Egypt.

The Airbus 330, which can hold 265 passengers, would replace Boeing 737s which can accommodate 150 passengers, according to Nasser.

Egyptians are being evacuated with coordination with the Egyptian embassy in Damascus.

Nasser said that flights heading to Damascus and Aleppo have seen an increase in the number of passengers. Each flight has carried 40 passengers, after the number had bottomed out at 25 to 30 passengers in the past few days.

Sources also said that the insurance companies have not changed fees on aircraft bound for Syria.

Hi,

Sorry, are the figures in your translation about the Syrian flights correct? It seems like nonsense?! You say that the average passenger load has increased from 30 to 40 passengers?!!! That's all?!! So actually the flights are still empty and surely making a loss. And, if they fly it with a 737 - the plane would still have more than 100 empty seats?!! It doesn't make any sense.

Oh, and that's a fake photoshop'd photo of an A380.... But I guess you realise that...

Well, I for one have no problem with Egyptair increasing the prices on their Saudi routes - they are a business not a charity - the idea is to make money! And if the government is going to let them have a monopoly on the routes then why not milk it and make money. And also - increasing the fares is not going to stop Egyptians going to Saudi for work and pilgrimage.

And the other mention that travel agents are saying that the price increases will affect the Egyptian tourist industry is just illogical tosh - there's nothing stopping any Saudi nationals from travelling to Egypt on Saudia or any other airline if they think MS is too expensive.

Any word on EgyptAir starting Cairo-Toronto? They had announced that it was going to begin in the summer of 2011, but the proposal was cancelled because of the revolution

Delays =/= Strike. I just saw it in the news this morning about the strikes and delays and the CEO of Egyptair denies these strikes.

EgyptAir (MS) is considering replacing its Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 fleet between 2020-2025, MS chairman and CEO Hossam Kamal told ATW in Taipei last week.

He said the airline is considering the 787 and the A350. “Our negotiation plan will be within the next two years,” he said.

MS, which has 79 aircraft in operation, is also eyeing replacing its older A320s, possibly with the A320neo. “At a first stage we would need three to five aircraft, for stage number two, up to 10 [aircraft] ,” he said.

MS is expecting delivery of two 737-800s in July and August, increasing its fleet to 20 of the type. The airline is expecting delivery of one new A330-300 in 2014, increasing its fleet to five of the type.

MS is in the process of phasing out four 777-200ERs and three A340-200s. “Selling these airplanes at this time of economic downturn is a big problem. But we are in good talks [to sell the aircraft] ,” Kamal said. MS has also grounded two of its four 737-500s.

But that's an A380 on the photo and not an A330.

Oh yes! Journalism at its best! Aswell as a fake photo, the article has no logic. I did put a comment on their website but funnily enough they didn't publish it... LOL

Well, I didn't hear anything lately about MS starting a new route to Toronto. Fingers crossed though. The last time I heard it mentionned was spring this year. We'll wait and see. Anyway, I am pleased to see that they are returning to Osaka. I hope more new destinations will follow. But I think that might be wishful thinking...
