Oh okay thanks for the info!

And I just did a mock search, departing Toronto early July, returning late August. Cheapest I could find was $1685 return. How did you get $700

Anyways, how do you know all this? Do you work in the airline industry or something?

Another new EgyptAir destination has been announced for Summer 2013: Manchester (UK).

The new route will launch from 01JUN13 with 5x weekly B737-800 flights:

CAI MAN MS783 08:45 13:30 -2-4567 B738 5hr45min
MAN CAI MS784 14:30 20:45 -2-4567 B738 5hr15min

Interesting choice in my opinion since MAN is a competitive market.

The airline currently operate 15x weekly flights to London/Heathrow (14 from CAI & 1 from LXR).

I suspect the airline will announce more expansion in Africa in time for Summer 2013.

The only growth announced so far for next year is the frequency increase to Asmara from 5x weekly to daily from 31MAY13.

The planned acquisition of Ghana's CityLink airline should be finalised in due course.

EgyptAir have announced their newest African destination (and 3rd new destination for the week) for Summer 2013: Harare (Zimbabwe).

The new route will launch from 01JUN13 as a tag off the existing Dar es Salaam flights:

CAI DAR MS841 23:30 06:15 -2-4-67 B738 5hr45min
DAR HRE MS841 07:15 08:50 1-3-5-7 B738 2hr35min
HRE DAR MS842 20:35 00:15 1-3-5-7 B738 2hr40min

DAR CAI MS842 01:15 06:00 12-4-6- B738 5hr45min

The airline is likely to secure 5th freedom rights on the DAR-HRE-DAR sector.

In January 2011, the airline added Lusaka (LUN) as a tag off the DAR flights however after a couple of flights it was cancelled due to the Egyptian Revolution which started one week later. The airline has now chosen to add HRE as a tag rather than relaunch LUN.

Thx for infos Horus. I remember tha MS flown to Harare (which is operated in cpe share SAA / MS) until 2001 or 2002. So as you said more destinations are coming

Probably a Cairo Kigali Entebbe Cairo. Until now MS serves Kigali in code share with Ethiopian.

Yes that's correct, MS suspended HRE in 2002. It was operated as a 1x weekly B767 service triangulated with JNB/CPT. It is currently served via a code share with SAA via JNB.

Kigali has been rumored for a while. If the airline does indeed launch KGL I suspect it will be a non-stop flight. CAI-KGL is almost the same distance as CAI-NBO, so I suspect a similar over night operation:

CAI KGL 21:50 03:45
KGL CAI 04:30 08:15

This will allow the airline to offer good connections to/from Europe & the Middle East.

By offering a 1-stop service via EBB, the airline will not be able to offer this connectivity as the flight would either depart CAI too early or arrive too late.

Glad to see MS back in Harare.

I flew with them HRE-CAI back in 1998 enroute to Rome onboard an Airbus A340. Fares were decent, but service wasn't much to write home about.

Horus, any idea why they dropped Lusaka so soon after the launch? Was it solely due to the revolution, or was it exclusively due to poor uptake?

The LUN tag via DAR service only operated between 16-25 January 2011 and a total of 6 flights were operated. On those flights the number of passengers who continued on the DAR-LUN tag averaged 23 passengers (that's just 16% LF). Although that does seem poor it was still early and routes take time to mature.

The revolution and ensuing unrest had a significant impact on the MS's network. In addition to LUN, the airline cancelled flights to CTA, LIS, DAR, NRT, KIX & KUL. The latter 4 were later relaunched.

All 3 routes are now official; YYZ, MAN & HRE:
http://www.egyptair.com/English/News...5ef5a1a23.aspx

Despite being a major network announcement, the press release is very poorly written and contains very little information/details besides the schedules (even that has errors - refer to HRE).

I know especially that I see every plane that lands on MAN from my window, so I may be observing Egyptair birds daily or weekly

If I'm going Egypt this summer I'll try and get a deal on Egyptair.

20% off at www.egyptair.com

Hi,

Just in case anyone's missed it - Egyptair are offering 20% off all international flights booked before 31st January for journeys starting by 15th March. See their website for details.

Worth knowing if anyone was thinking about booking flights. Although the website isn't very good at showing what discount you are getting - normally when MS have this type of promotion they always shows the breakdown in the price and the exact discount you're getting on the booking pages when you have selected flights but for some reason they are not doing that. So, it's hard to see whether your flight selection is actually discounted or not?

Oh, and although not mentionned on the website - I also got an email from them saying that they are also offering 50% off upgrade fees at the airport. I never even knew you could do that. Anyone have any experience of doing that? Is the upgrade fee much cheaper than the difference in price between an economy and business class ticket? Is it easy to do? Do you do it at check-in or the ticket office?

(I would ask Egyptair myself in an email but they always answer with replies that either completely ignore the question or make no sense at all!? They are quite funny - a few weeks ago they sent me a brief, plain text-only email saying that Egyptair appreciates its customers blah blah... and that I should contact the address below to ask about their special offers. So, just to make a point of how pointless their email was, I emailed the address quoted and asked "so then, what is it I should be asking about?" and they replied saying - please check out our website! ha ha

Oh, and one more thing while I'm ranting What bright spark at Cairo Airport had the idea to park a line-up of 3 written-off planes (including the burnt out MS 777) at the end of the runway closest to T3?! So now all the planes taxi past a plane graveyard before taking off. Has noone heard of good PR?! The airport covers a huge land area - there are so many other out-of-the-way places they could have stored those airframes.

Egyptair S13 Asia Operational Aircraft Changes

As reported on Airline Route:

As per 06FEB13 GDS timetable and inventory display, EGYPTAIR is changing operational aircraft to Asia in Summer 2013 season. Planned changes as follow (schedule effective 01JUN13).

Cairo – Guangzhou Boeing 777-300ER operates 5 times a week for entire Summer 2013 season, from 31MAR13 (Previously to be operated -200ER from 01JUN13)
MS958 CAI2330 – 1530+1CAN 77W x27
MS959 CAN0020 – 0500CAI 77W x24

Cairo – Tokyo Narita eff 03MAY13 3 weekly service operated by Boeing 777-200ER, replacing -300ER. Re-introduction of First Class Service
MS964 CAI2315 – 1800+1NRT 777 257
MS965 NRT2120 – 0335+1CAI 777 136

Mmm, so seems that the 777-200's are coming back into service. Hope they start using the A340s again too. Seems a big downgrade really for Tokyo. The first class on the 777-200 is worse than business class on the 77W!

What the.. EgyptAir should retire their A340's and B777-200's ASAP! It's a horrible product. I thought Tokyo had quite good load factors on their 77W's. Are all new 77W's and A333's that were parked on the apron back into service? If not, why not using the instead of the 772's?
