Manchester Road Station is expected to be open for passengers by mid summer, although the new car park is already being used.

Burnley Council leader Mark Townsend said: "A few finishing touches are being undertaken. The redevelopment of Manchester Road Station was a top priority for Burnley, crucial to transforming the borough’s economic prospects, and is just one of the major regeneration projects underway to develop new infrastructure to support the economic growth of the town.

For some passengers it can be the first impression they get of a town, and with the transformations underway in town, it is important that visitors see the new modern, changing Burnley".

Cash boost keeps tram dream alive
11 November 2014

Extra funding has been secured to investigate extending Blackpool’s tram system towards south Fylde

The £160,000 project, jointly funded by Lancashire County Council and Sintropher, a European Union project to improve local and regional transport in Europe, could lead to the tram system being extended towards Squires Gate train station and allow for a link to St Annes.

Andrew Loynd, principal parking and energy officer at Fylde Council, said: “Once the most recent study is completed in a year’s time the various authorities and agencies will be in a better position to assess whether an extension of the tram network to St Annes will be viable.Extra funding has been secured to investigate extending Blackpool’s tram system towards south Fylde.

Blackpool’s tram link to Fleetwood could be lost after County Hall chiefs threatened to stop funding its share of the tramway

The proposal to cut funding for the Lancashire portion of the track is among a raft of measures put forward by Lancashire County Council (LCC)as it tries to plug a £65m hole in its finances left by Government cuts.
