For the past 600 years, Kochi has catered to many vistors from around the world including Arabs, Chinese, Portuguese, French, English, Dutch, Russians and Japanese. This has made the city a melting pot of various cultures, and this diversity is evident in the cuisine.
Being a coastal city, plenty of fresh seafood is the local speciality. With the backwaters, freshwater fish is also popular here. Prawns, squids and shrimps are easily available and cooked in many styles. The most famous of Kochi's specialty dishes is Meen Molagitta Curry (smoked freshwater fish with chilly and coconut milk). The English popularized smoked fish with steamed bread and mashed potatoes. One of Kochi's traditional vegetarian specialties is Kurukku Kalan (a thick yogurt curry with toasted banana and hot rice). Packed Kurukku Kalan as well as Palada (a sweet dessert with rice flakes and milk) are sold in many supermarkets and food stalls, especially during festive times.

Uber and ubereats are independent and operates separately. From what I’ve seen in Dubai, they use two wheelers with ubereats livery. There’s additional charge for the delivery if you order through ubereats app .

Tried Ubereats yesterday.

Its damn faster and efficient. This is because, its dedicated transport services, not dependent on hotel's delivery. So its much faster.

Yesterday made an order from Cafe 17 in KK road which I used to order regularly. Normally they need delivery time around 1 hour. But with Ubereats, it came around 40 Mins.

And not much fuss on address locations etc, as its shown on the screen. And we can also track as such.

The only issue is lack of COD option. Hopefully they add that option soon.

Swiggy to enter Coimbatore, Kochi this month

Food ordering and delivery platform Swiggy on Wednesday announced its foray in Coimbatore and Kochi this month as part of efforts to strengthen presence in the south.

Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad are some of the strongest markets for Swiggy, and the expansion will further firm up the company's position in southern India, it said in a statement.

The company had entered three new cities, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Jaipur, in last three months.


"Southern India is pivotal to our vision of 'changing the way India eats'. Coimbatore and Kochi are some of the fastest growing Indian cities that have a thriving local culinary culture," Swiggy Vice President-Marketing Srivats TS said.

The company has more than 25,000 restaurant partners across 13 cities in the country.

It looks like they are hiring aggressively. Saw a recruitment ad of Swiggy offering monthly remuneration (commission of course) upto 22K for delivery boys.

I guess, its one way to attract lot of young chaps and push for aggressive and faster delivery network

Does Zomato has its own delivery staff? In my experience booking via Zomato, its hotel's delivery staff who delivers, not dedicated staff.

Zomato in Kochi charges around 50 to 100 Rs (depening upon restaurants) as its service charge. A few restaurants when booked via Zomato, upon delivery their boys advice us to make the booking directly with hotel to avoid this additional charge. They advise us to look Zomato only for menu purposes.

Now a days, I am ordering via Uber eats. Its ultra-fast in my experience as being done by its own employees. And they are more transparent. We know there is a delivery charge of 25 Rs, which is much worth due to fast delivery than Zomato's Rs 50 for no special services as such.

McCafe launched in Kochi

The Lulu Outlet has been successfully converted into McCafe which means now you have an array of Coffee options, a full-fledged patisserie apart from a huge refreshed menu with lite savory bytes etc. And open air extension will soon be opened in the Lulu Outlet.

You’d be surprised when Thai Soul located within the Grand Hyatt Kochi Bolgatty welcomes you with a berry loaded drink served in a plastic bag. Well, we are. So much more about the mismatched chairs in the 151-cover restaurant that exclusively serves Thai cuisine.

“Rather than a fine-dining space, we have incorporated elements from the famous street cuisine of the cities in Thailand,” says head chef Supattra Boonsrang, explaining the idea behind the casual design. Past the lounge area, chef tables and the private dining room, we decide to dine al fresco, adjacent to the pool, sipping an excellent citrus drink thickened with bananas.

His Yellow Chilli casual dining restaurant in Kochi has been opened in partnership with Aslam Abdul Rahman, who owns Rinz International Food Private Ltd. The two have jointly opened restaurant in Abu Dhabi.

Master Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Aslam inaugurated ‘The Yellow Chilli’ – a sprawling 2800 sq ft area - at the Food Court in Lulu Mall, Kochi. The restaurant, which seats 72, had a soft launch in 2017, and has been serving delectable North Indian food.

The Yellow Chilli menu reflects Sanjeev Kapoor’s culinary excellence with exotic picks from the Mughal era and specific regions of Punjab that includes signature dishes like Tomato Basil Shorba, Harippa Paneer Tikka, Shaam Savera, Lalla Mussa Dal, Lawrence Road Tandoori Murgh, Puran Singh da Tariwala Murgh, Nalli Rogan Josh, Dum Gosht Biryani, Peshawari Naan and others. The restaurant is open to customers from 11.00 am to 11.00 pm. “Both the city and its people are unique. My restaurant will give them a food experience like never before says Master Chef Sanjeev Kapoor.

Kochi's latest restobar has one of the most extensive mixology menus in Kerala



Despite being a tourist haven, this heritage town has never had an upmarket clubbing venue before. However, with the city recovering from the deluge and the next edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale just around the corner—the Fort Kochi party scene is poised to raise the roof! No 18 Hotel on K B Jacob Road, just a stone’s throw away from the Vypin-Fort Kochi boat jetty, has regained its liquor license and reopened its restobar.

They’re calling it Club 18. “We have one of the largest mixology menus in Kerala with over 38 cocktails,” claims co-owner Vineeth Kumar, adding, “That’s not all. Unlike the other pubs in Kochi, our bar only closes at midnight, since we’re located in a heritage/tourist space (like Kovalam). ”

This swank 92-cover space, is decked out with grey walls featuring graffiti art, pale green upholstery, a top-end 10,000 W soundsystem, and hardwood floors and tables.
