State bus driver was boozing on off day, called back on duty


Sunagaara had just completed the 530 km drive from Belgaum to city. After unwinding with a few pegs, he headed for bed on his off day, but was called back to work by his bosses. He hit a motorbike, knocking out the rider

State road transport corporations do not seem to care for either others on the road or its own passengers. A driver who was just unwinding with a few pegs of whiskey after completing a tedious 530-km drive from Belgaum to the city was dragged out of his slumber and asked to return to work. It was his rest day and he was entitled to do what he liked, but he couldn’t tell his bosses that. Sleep deprived, still fuddled from the booze and with another gruelling journey before him, the driver luckily didn’t go far, but in that short distance he nearly caused a fatal accident. On the Sirsi flyover he rammed into a motorbike, knocking the rider, Raju, unconscious. In fact, Raju was lucky to come out alive.

Came to mangalore today from Pune in the 6.30PM Pune-Mangalore Airavat Club Class. Was fortunate to get the new ACC with registration number KA57F798. It had done 9057kms on the odo. I felt the legroom in the new ACC are cramped, the older ones were better. The floor carpets were of green color(usually we see the red colored ones). One interesting feature I noted is that whenever the luggage compartment door was opened there was a beep sound coming which used to stop once the doors were closed. The service was good & consistent as always. The three Mumbai-Mangalore club class were also cruising with our bus. The regular service to Mumbai (reg no. KA01F9149) looked in a very battered condition with some sounds coming from the bus. KSRTC should try & replace this service on priority with a new bus.

I still see same number of seats in ACC, if seats are getting cramped then the new seats have more reclining angle or B9R length is reduced, thanks for the review

There are 49 seats in the new ACC buses. What I hear is that now the last row seats also have a good reclining angle like other seats which was not the case in older ACC.

KSRTC bags award for ITS

KSRTC (Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation) was bestowed with IIMM SCM innovation award for its venture in intelligence transport system operated in Mysore.

The award was given during the APCON conclave in Bangalore on Friday.

KSRTC is the first state road transport undertaking SRTU which implemented ITS in Mysore on half the fleet that operates in the city. ITS was implemented in Mysore a year in September 2012.

KSRTC funded Rs 20.13 crore in 500 buses, 105 Bus Stops, six bus terminals and 45 platforms with the support of World Bank and Ministry of Urban Development.

It provides real time information about bus arrival and departure, real time data through SMS and website to commuters.

Yesterday while traveling from Mangalore to Pune in ACC, the drivers were telling to another driver that more new ACC buses have come to depot & they were awaiting registration. I am not sure which depot he was talking about. Mangalore depot has got/getting the more number of ACC buses this time.

KSRTC will be stopping the 5PM Mangalore-Pune service from tomorrow.

KSRTC is not stopping the 5PM Pune service, it is available in reservation, see for 24th and 31st May

Ok got it, looks like a bug in KSRTC booking site.


Another topic,
I saw a review of NWKRTC AGC Hubli-Bangalore, was shocked to see that NWKRTC AGC volvos are locked at 85 & the journey time was more than express bus. Wonder why they require volvos for running at such slow speed.
