I think the project is delayed by a year due to lot of clearance delays both from SG and CG. Latest info on this project is, companies will start constructing in 2013 and start functioning from 2014.

last year I stayed at a place on the OMR, can't remember the name, was about 20 min ride from SRK, problem is that there were still open drains in that area! all filled with mounds of garbage. You may not notice if you zip past in a car but walking there was really tough. The city has expanded really fast but there is lot of unplanned development in the outer fringes which is a problem with all cities though. Chennai should do something about the drains though, even in certain areas of T.Nagar which so many people visit for shopping had drains broken in places.

That is also doubtful as land procurement is becoming tough.Sri city may grab this project thru their readymade factory sites offered at low cost.

I read somewere Acendas, has already purchased over 200 directly from the land owners.

They are saying that land acquisition are in advance stage and the initial phase will commence work on only about 240 acers once all Goverment approval is recived.

The project will not go elsewhere unless State Goverment does not offer any assistance and co-operation.

Will it ever be a full 1500 acers, that is questionable.

May be possible if the salt pans are transferred.

This project is coming up at the southern Tip of OMR ( Where OMR meets ECR after Mahabs) . Those places are still deserted with few villages. They are developing this near the Alapakkam Sipcot ( Orchid Chemicals factory). there are few Engineering colleges and real estate plots. The Govt has huge land tracts here . 1500 is nothing in this place. The stretch is empty between OMR and ECR near Alapakkam.

I am really surprised how they have left the Salt pans untouched with Kelambakkam bustling with real estate activities. Last time I saw a flat being constructed at the edge of the salt pan in the Kovalam kelambakkam road

That's the problem.State Govt co-operation in this project is not encouraging. She smells previous govt in the files of this project as per a insider info and suddenly turned unenthusiastic.U see approvals from SG is delaying the project.

Ascendas has already completed the land acquisition but wants more concessions and guarantees from the state on power, water supply etc.

This project is mainly delayed due to power paucity in the state.

Completion of road !!???. that won't happen for the next ten years as there is no intention to do it. Once they have started collecting the Toll they forgot about completion.

Phase II of OMR to Take Off
Posted on October 19, 2012

The State government has sanctioned र260 crore towards land acquisition for the widening of the second phase of Old Mamallapuram Road. Phase II of OMR, which is currently a four-lane stretch with a median, will be widened into six lanes. This 26.8 km stretch, under the charge of the State Highways Department, will run from Siruseri to Poonjeri, where it will join the East Coast Road.

Two new by-passes have been planned to avoid the areas that are urbanised and have too many buildings. The road will run through 13 revenue villages, and nearly 200 acres of land are required to widen it. One by-pass, running to a length of 4.67 km, will come up in Padur and reach Thaiyyur-B village, by-passing Kelambakkam. Similarly, the other by-pass of 5.75 km will take off in Kalavakkam and join Vengaleri. It will by-pass Thiruporur and Thandalam.

Widening the road to six lanes and strengthening it is imperative, as a lot of development is taking place beyond Siruseri, which has a SIPCOT park.A large number of residential complexes and several colleges have come up to Thiruporur, which also witnesses a high volume of traffic. According to sources in the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company, which manages Rajiv Gandhi Salai, work on the footpaths and service lanes are expected to be completed by the end of September.

Phase I not complete

Though tolling operations on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (the stretch that runs from Madhya Kailash to Siruseri) began in December 2008, work on the road is yet to be completed. Residents complain that pedestrians are forced to walk on the road as the pavements are unfinished in many places. G. Sathish, a resident of Semmancheri said: “They collect toll fees but what kind of service are they providing? Water stagnates on the road when it rains, and streets leading from the road also get flooded. The road smacks of lack of planning. There is no traffic management. Too many accidents happen.”

According to sources in the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company, which manages Rajiv Gandhi Salai, work on the footpaths and service lanes are expected to be completed by the end of September. ????

Any idea why that building is left haunted.

Given its prime location, it should have been fully occupied. Is it in any case or dispute?

Hmm, reminds me of this old saying: "what you sow, so you reap". By meekly paying the tolls, it is no surprise to be served with this awesome piece of engineering.
