Well done to BHP for putting in 10 million dollar for the water feature.

I agree Samy. I like Hilarys. Scarborough and Cott on the other hand could do with some serious development and high rise. Not all beachfront developments need to be Gold Coast like.

What's the source for that? I see references to Kings Park and Rottnest being the most visited tourist attraction in Perth.

No source, I actually did a bit of digging after I made that comment and couldn't find anything. I can distinctly remember that being the case a couple of years back. Hillaries would easily have more year round visitors than Rottnest i reckon. Not sure about kings park or how they would even count how many people visit kings park.

Just found a couple of numbers:

Hillarys yearly visitors - 4.5million

http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/media...at_Harbour.pdf

Rottnest yearly visitors - 500,000

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rottnest_Island

Kings Park yearly visitors - 6.4million

Visitors and tourists are 2 different things though

Even if I went there, as a local, it would be counted in the visitor stats.

Surely Kings Park would crap all over Hillarys if only tourists numbers were considered (no I don't have figures to back this up - I doubt anyone does)

Also if the same person visits multiple times, you are counted as a visitor each time.

So rather than saying 6.4 million visitors, its 6,4 millions "visits".

Other than the aquarium, water park and boats (charters, Rottnest Ferry etc) what else does Hillaries have that makes it worth visiting? Although looking at it on Google Maps, I do see they have a Hippo Creek so that's something...

It's "Hillarys" there's no plural or apostrophes or anything, its just with a ys as per the suburb name.

The main attraction for me is that it's one of the only marinas on the coast where everything is built as a boardwalk over the water.

Most marinas are built on solid ground, onshore, looking out at the boat pens, whereas "Hillarys" has all the restaurants and shops built out over the water, looking back at the shoreline.

Walking on boardwalks instead of paving just feels great. The place has a unique vibe that I find really calming.

The internal beaches and the jetty to dive from in the protected water is also really great for swimming.
