#Scrapped: Empire Square - 64st/240m/mixed

I have been told this morning that a guy who purchased the old Treasury Row building (where Louis Vuitton used to be) in Elizabeth St has put an application into council for an 82 story tower on this old site but even then will not build for a few years to come anyway. Anyone know anything else about this? This was all he could tell me, he didn't know much else, I didn't ask many questions as there were a few of us around talking about something completely different at the time and I didn't get back on the subject. 82 Story Resi, how high would that be??? 220m + ???

HOLY SHIT!

I heard about someone wanting to build there, but it was only for a small (maybe 15 stories) building

This is great news, the area could do with some tallies

Wow! So did your source say it was a resi or are you just assuming. There are only 11 buildings in the world with 82 or more floors. If it had 3m floor-to-floor it would be 246m minimum, so probably taller than Vision (to roof anyway).

The Treasury Row building, isn't that on the corner of Elizabeth & George, next to Casino Towers. If so they'd have to build on top - they can't knock it down can they.

The building on the corner is the Family Services building and is heritage listed, along with a whole lot of the buildings in the area. Treasury Row is beside the Family Services building down Elizabeth Street - opposite to the Myer Centre.

Im not trying to play it down here but Im not sure he new exactly what he was on about. What I mean is he might of said 80 odd storeys but could of meant 80 metres instead...... But one thing he did say which I totally forgot about before, and was quite surprised that he knew, was that he said that about 30 floors of the building will be a hotel and the rest will be residential.

As I said, he just told me really in passing this morning. I started the thread on here to see if anyone can get any hard facts.

Treasury row in the photo above is down the Elizabeth st side just after the old building on the corner - so really right behind Casino towers in that pic backing on to the telstra building.

Google tells me it's 47(-79) Elizabeth. I already checked, there's no DA's for that vicinity. It could just be that it's only just been lodged and council hasn't processed it yet..............or that it doesn't exist.

doesnt suprise me that much lol.

The councils new draft comes out supporting tall buildings in specific areas,
The developer gets bold,

Hence 80 story building.

Sounds about 255m (30 hotel + 50 resi)
If theres a 4 level podium, it would be (4 Podium + 30 Hotel + 46 Resi = 259m)

Biggun.
Hope its true.

In Prime Site a few months ago there was a story about developers who had just amalgamated the site and that something was proposed but it did not go into detail.

There are several things to consider before we get excited:
Heritage issues - is treasury row heritage listed? If so forget it.
Proximity to the Mall - remember they don't want tall buildings next to the mall though this is a block away which is good. Draft master plan has details on this. I think it may be in the unlimited height area.

Its a block away from the mall. I believe the masterplan image showed that as unlimited.

Ok, it's good that it's not listed as "Heritage" for the reason building the tower, but why the fuck isn't it??? This is one of the best older buildings in Brisbane!!

Not the one on the corner, the little white ones just down from it.

The site is in a sensitive area under the new City Plan, but it's just a draft - it hasn't come into effect yet. If it's already with council it'll be accessed under the existing plan wont it?

I hardly think the "blobs" are actually very specific. Like Oriolus said, it's still a draft. I wonder what that one near Vision is for.

i doubt this project will ever happen. 80 stories is too unrealistic for Brisbane. 80m would sound believable
