As a fellow Torontonian of Greek background, thank you file! (file = friend in Greek)

Your pictures are very nice and I recognize all those places as I frequent the Danforth and Pape Avenue areas a lot.

Once again, thanks!

No problem buddy!

My favourite restaurant is definitely Mezes....because it has authentic and more rare Greek foods (you know, sea foods, baked foods, etc.).

However, after a late night out on a Friday or Saturday I defintely like going to Messini because it has the best gyros on the Danforth. Also, the hot brunette working the cash register isn't a bad thing to look at either...

Here is a little secret for you. Perhaps the best (and probably most expensive) restuarant is on Pape Avenue just north of Danforth Avenue. It is called Palace restaurant and has incredible food with enormous portions.

Take care!

Thanks for the excellent photo tour. I've been to Greektown in Toronto, which as you say is very vibrant. Toronto must be one of the most successful multicultural cities in the world.

Your link to the Toronto page has some amazing pics with good commentary, worth checking out.

The Greek Community in Toronto has a proud history.. they have not only managed to be successful and contribute greatly to the city, but they have managed to keep their neighbourhood exciting, vibrant and attractive to young people from all over the city (a key to success, I think). This summer I will try and get some more pictures, and maybe investigate some of the other Greek Churches in town.

So does that part of town attract a lot of young people besides just Greeks? If so, very cool indeed.

I can definitely say yes. Especially in the summer. The "xenoi" (or Anglo-Saxons, other Mediterranean peoles (Italians), and many tourists visting from Europe and the USA love the "Greek" feel to all the outdoor seating, the music, and the food. There are many weekends where there are many more non-Greeks than Greeks.

That being said, a lot of night-clubs (both bars and modern-style bouzoukia with live Greek music acts) have opened up in the last 10 years. These stay open late and are visited by 80-90 per cent Greeks.

Yes, actually funny you should mention that. Ethnic neighbourhoods can die out and get old fashioned and stodgy unless young people latch onto them. Greektown somehow managed to do so, and it is an extremely popular area and considered a cool place to hang out for young people of all backgrounds. I just wish I had had a camera when Greece won that football competition a number of years ago... The Danforth exploded with many thousands of Greek people celebrating and waving flags... so much fun, but I didn't own a camera

Anyhow, I invite everyone to visit my picture thread, as there are many, many more pictures of our Greektown on it. Please leave a message to give the thread a *bump*! Thanks! It is on the last two pages of this link:
