This place is a good one too! A little out of date but an accurate site!

New facility available on the forum . . .

Some of you may have noticed this already, but for the last week there has been available a facility for you to see who is viewing any thread, at the same time as you!

The "Currently Active Users Viewing This Thread" facility can be viewed at the very bottom of all threads, when open.

It shows the names of all registered members currently sharing your viewing of the thread, and also gives the numbers of unregistered 'guests' (often quite a large number, for some threads) that are currently viewing the same thread.

Erm, like every other Vbulletin forum does? In the history of the universe?

The 'active users viewing this thread' bar has been and gone throughout SSC's history. It's interesting to see the number of lurkers viewing threads.

Any updates on the new app? It was in testing a few weeks ago, surely it is stable enough for release now?

Yeah I have been keeping up to date with that thread, I was wondering if the mods knew of anything we didn't.

Former Ice Factory And Heaney Works, Land At East Bank, Ouseburn Newcastle upon Tyne - new thread created

NH Thanks for input of additional "back issue" posts following my PM to you

Should Title of thread now be changed from "Preparation" to "Under Construction"

Also would it be handy to have reference to "Malings" in thread title as that is what is being included on banners to the site

KEN

You're welcome Ken.

(1) Could you tell me whereabouts within the name of this project the word "Malings" is now being used (officially?) to describe the project?

I would like to get the name of the thread set up as accurately as possible.

(2) Project Threads - Standard SSC 'Suffixes' in use, and the definitions of them (copied from the 'Opening Post' of the Admin Thread) . . .

Pre-planning - Project is still in the design and consultation phase
Proposed - Project has been submitted for planning permission
Approved - Project has been approved by Planning
Demolition - Demolition underway on site
Preparation - Site clearance/excavation/piling/foundations
U/C - Core and superstructure rising (ie, Under Construction)
T/O - Topped Out. The tower or other building, has reached its maximum height
Completed - Internally and externally complete.
Postponed or Dormant - Where work ceases temporarily.
Cancelled - Cancellation of Project.

If you are of the opinion that we have now passed on further from the definition of 'Preparation' for this project, then please confirm this and I will amend the suffix to U/C.

KEN

OK, the below (while trying to avoid it being 'too long' a title) seems to hit the spot??

The Malings (Ex Ice Factory & Heaney Works) | Newcastle | Various | Preparation

The Malings - Ouseburn

No mention of where it is - The Ouseburn?

When I was naming documents at work it was always K.I.S.S.

How many know where the Ice Factory was or even less Heaney Works?

Whatever.

If you look through the long list of Project threads in the Index (under "T" for Threads) or in the 'Development Summary', you will see that the second section of every Project Thread Title tells people around SSC where it is.

That is a mandatory part of the thread title, and in this case it is in Newcastle.

Locally, we may be aware of "which part of Newcastle" this project is in (Gosforth, Westerhope, Ouseburn, Jesmond, or wherever) but the requirement is to tell people in SSC where it is - not us!

We (locally/on the forum) "know" where it is . . . the structure of the 'Project Thread Title' is to tell everyone where it is.

I have always tried to adhere to this in 'Project Thread' titles, but I can see where you are coming from Adrian

I have taken the opportunity to 'enhance' the information in the Index on this particular subject, our "Historic Quayside Stairs and Chares".

Access to (and the comprehensive nature of) the information listed/linked on there, should now be better.

SEE . . .

Under "Q" for 'Quayside' (Sub-section NOW 'alphabetically' sub-divided).

Under "S" for 'Stairs' (Now a full list of the same links as under "Q")

Under "C" for 'Chares' (a 'cross-reference' only, to "Q" and to "S")

The Index is a constantly evolving thread, changing every week/every day, with (naturally) 'additional links' as new Factual Information appears on the forum, but also in terms of 'enhanced structure' as different/differing needs and requirements are identified, through usage.

The main 'enhancement' at the moment is where 'sub-sections' have grown and now contain a LOT of individual links - they need to be 'alphabetically sub-divided'.

"Gateshead" is a prime example of a 'grown-large' sub-section of the index Thread that has been (of necessity) alphabetically sub-divided. Gateshead really couldn't be used without that!

I am gradually working through these 'large sub-sections' as time allows . . .

This is probably a daft [admin] type question but as admin is there any automatic way that you can have updates [say] here also appear in [say] retail. There probably are not that many developments like this but on the one or two it would be a great timesaver [and avoid a lot of cut n paste.

The answer is no and I expect that is where you thought the answer would go.

So its all down to the poster to reasonably decide if a posting is relevant to more than one thread and cut and paste.
