Garuda Indonesia: The Airline of Indonesia



PT (Persero) Perusahaan Penerbangan Garuda Indonesia is the national airline of Indonesia. It is named after the mythical bird Garuda. In Indian Vedic tradition, Garuda is the carrier of the Hindu god Vishnu; a representation of Garuda appears in the coat of arms of Indonesia. The airline is based in Jakarta at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, with hubs at Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, Juanda International Airport, Surabaya, Polonia International Airport, Medan, Sepinggan International Airport, Balikpapan, and Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore.[citation needed] The airline flies to a number of destinations in South-East and East Asia, the Middle East and Australia, and previously flew to several destinations in Europe. However, as of June 2008, Garuda, along with all Indonesian airlines, is banned from flying to the EU[1]. It is wholly owned by the Indonesian Government and employs 6,285 staff (as of March 2007).

Garuda aims to double profit to Rp 516 billion

Garuda Indonesia intends to double its net profit this year to Rp 516 billion from a year earlier, says its president director.

"We aim to increase it by up to two-fold," Emirsyah Satar said following a discussion on state-owned companies' performance here on Thursday.

The profit will be the result of the company's success in raising its transport capacity, improving efficiency and expanding its market, he said.

Garuda will increase its fleet, including operating planes, under a lease contract as part of efforts to improve its transport capacity, he said.

The national flag carrier is in the process of ordering 50 Boeing 737-800s, 10 Boeing 777-30ERs and three Airbus planes under a lease contract. The 50 Boeing 737-800s will be delivered in 2009 and 10 Boeing 777-30ER in 2010.

Last year, Garuda posted a profit of Rp 258 billion after it suffered losses for three consecutive years.

Garuda suffered a loss of Rp 811.3 billion in 2004, Rp 688.4 billion in 2005 and Rp 197 billion in 2006.

He said efficiency was a must in view of a persistent steep rise in fuel costs.

"Efficiency also includes selling non-productive assets," he said.(**)

Feedback time:
Cerita pengalaman aja pas terbang last week. Flight attendantnya numpahin air ke penumpang, terus jalannya nabrak2. Makanan bekas lupa diambil lagi. Ada yg merhatiin gak, garuda jalur penerbangan internasional itu pengumuman oleh pilot/flight attendants nya selalu gimana gitu.. gak enak dengernya. Udah gitu speakernya kayaknya digedeain sampe pol abis. Memekakkan telinga gitu. Sayang gak ada form feedback. kalo ada udah pengen komplain. Btw, toiletnya agak jorok dan banyak yg rusak, terutama di kocoran airnya. Mudah2an ada orang Garuda yg denger disini biar bisa di-improve gitu ganti.. roger..

Miss Universe 2008 Resmikan GIH



JAKARTA--MI: Miss Universe 2008 asal Venezuela Dayana Mendoza meresmikan layanan paket wisata Garuda Indonesia Holiday (GIH) di Jakarta, Kamis (21/8).

Pada acara peresmian tersebut ia didampingi Menteri Negara BUMN Sofyan Djalil, Puteri Indonesia 2008 Zivanna Letisha Siregar dan CEO Garuda Indonesia Emirsyah Satar. Mendoza juga memperoleh kesempatan menjadi pengunjung pertama (first visitor) situs GIH yaitu www.garudaholidays.com.

Ia memilih Bali sebagai tujuan wisatanya. "Wow it's Bali," ucapnya dengan sumringah saat mengklik pilihan tujuan wisata di situs tersebut.

GIH merupakan layanan paket wisata yang bisa menjangkau hampir seluruh objek wisata domestik maupun internasional dengan didukung sedikitnya 400 hotel pilihan. Paket wisata yang dilayani antara lain paket wisata kesehatan, olahraga, petualangan, bulan madu, dan sebagainya.

Menurut Satar, pihaknya menargetkan 2,5 juta passengers bisa terlayani melalui GIH yang dikelola oleh anak perusahaan Garuda Indonesia Aerowisata Jaya Perkasa (AJP).

Peluncuran GIH, lanjutnya, juga merupakan salah satu upaya Garuda Indonesia mendukung program Visit Indonesia 2008.

Dayana Mendoza yang lahir di Caracas 1 Juni 1986 melihat Indonesia sebagai negeri yang indah "I am very exciting to be here (Indonesia) everything is just so beautiful," katanya.

Memang, sejak terpilih sebagai Miss Universe 2008 beberapa waktu lalu, ini merupakan pengalaman pertamanya mengunjungi Indonesia. Kota-kota yang telah disinggahinya antara lain Jakarta dan Palembang. Selama berkeliling Indonesia, ia memang selalu dilayani oleh Garuda Indonesia.

Sementara itu, terkait dengan kinerja Garuda Indonesia, Sofyan menilai Garuda Indonesia kini memang telah lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan sebelumnya. Tetapi, tambah Menteri, bila dibandingkan kompetitor lain, masih tertinggal jauh. "Nggak usah berbicara Singapore Airline, bandingin saja sama kompetitor lokal dulu," ujarnya.

Meski demikian, pihaknya akan terus mendukung langkah-langkah yang dilakukan Garuda Indonesia untuk mendukung pariwisata nasional. Menurutnya, GIH yang mengusung tema The Easy Way to Your Dream Holidays merupakan jendela bagi para wisatawan asing untuk mengenal Indonesia melalui paket-paket wisata yang disediakan.

Ia berharap, produk GIH bisa memperkaya pelayanan Garuda Indonesia untuk lebih maju di masa depan.(*/OL-01)

Garuda to add seats for Idul Fitri

National flag carrier PT Garuda Indonesia is set to prepare 44,000 extra seats to anticipate the soaring number of passengers during the 2008 Idul Fitri celebrations.

Garuda's head of communications, Pujobroto, told a press gathering Friday that Garuda would be adding 44,533 seats on 11 flight routes between Sept. 25 and Oct. 6.

The initiative is part of Garuda's measures to accommodate the high number of travelers during the Idul Fitri festivities.

Pujo added that Garuda's anticipative measures included increasing the frequency of flights and using larger aircrafts.

According to Pujo, the 11 routes comprise eight domestic routes and three international routes.

The domestic route consists of, among others, 18,740 seats on the Jakarta-Denpasar route and 3,388 seats on the Jakarta- Surabaya route.

Pujo added that Garuda, which had pledged to adopt a flexible operations policy, would be operating a 636-seat plane in anticipation for passengers traveling the Jakarta-Denpasar route.

"An example of this is last year's Idul Fitri holiday. Garuda, which initially had planned on raising the number of seats, practically added another 13,604 seats on the route," Pujo said. (amr)

ACS Hindari Penggunaan Pengawet Makanan
Menengok Fasilitas Garuda Indonesia di Jakarta


Pada 2000 Garuda Indonesia memulai pengembangan internal audit. Berbagai persoalan menuntut manajemen bekerja keras agar lolos International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit.

DALAM perjuangan memperoleh IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit), Dirut Garuda Emirsyah Satar ternyata sangat memprioritaskan keselamatan penerbangan. Safety Overview PT Garuda Indonesia, Capt Novianto Heru Pratomo, mengatakan hal ini.

“Meskipun dia (Emir, Red) bukan orang teknik, ia tetap mengutamakan safety. Meskipun safety ini harus dibayar mahal,” terang Novianto.

Safety penerbangan terbagi menjadi 2. Pertama safety yang menyangkut terjadinya accident (kecelakaan). Seperti kecelakaan pesawat, gagal take off dan lain sebagainya. “Penumpang ngamuk atau orang berkelahi di dalam kabin juga masuk dalam safety record audit,” katanya.

Kedua, safety yang menyangkut hazard (ancaman) terjadinya kecelakaan. Bentuknya macam-macam, seperti awak kabin yang mengantuk atau pilot yang malamnya menenggak alkohol. Ancaman seperti ini mendapat perhatian khusus manajemen.

Untuk mengantisipasinya Garuda Indonesia membangun Medical Centre. Di sini seluruh karyawan mulai dari Pilot, ground handling hingga catering mendapat penanganan kesehatan. Satu-satunya maskapai yang memiliki Medical Centre hanyalah Garuda Indonesia.

Setelah membenahi seluruh fasilitas dan organisasi manajemen, pada Maret 2005 Garuda Indonesia mengundang auditor IATA untuk melakukan audit permulaan terkait persoalan safety.

Pada tahap permulaan IATA melakukan IOSA Preparation Visit (IPV). Tahap ini menilai secara keseluruhan proses kerja Garuda Indonesia. Tujuannya memberikan koreksi terhadap apa yang perlu disiapkan menjelang IOSA. Pada September 2006 Garuda Indonesia mulai di audit IATA.

IATA baru mengukuhkan IOSA pada Mei 2008. Masa berlaku IOSA hanya 24 bulan dari dimulainya audit. Berarti September 2008, masa berlaku IOSA habis. Karena itulah Garuda Indonesia menanamkan komitmen kuatnya kepada selurah jajarannya untuk mempertahankan predikat maskapai operator IOSA. “Harapannya agar IOSA dapat terus diperpanjang hingga September 2010 dan seterusnya,” terang Novianto. Otomatis keselamatan juga menjadi prioritas utama.

Setelah mendapat pengetahuan keselamatan penerbangan, rombongan melanjutkan kunjungan ke Aerowisata Catering Service (ACS). Di sini rombongan disambut Training Coordinator ACS, Blegoh Sutino. Ia menjelaskan ACS memiliki 2 dapur, yaitu halal dan nonhalal. Maksud kata halal di sini adalah produk yang berasal dari pemotongan hewan bersertifikat Majaelis Ulama Indonesia.

Sedangkan nonhalal maksudnya daging impor atau bahan pangan lain yang bukan dari Indonesia. Metode masak yang diterapkan ACS cook and chill (masak dan dinginkan). ”Karena ACS menghindari penggunaan pengawet makanan,” kata Blegoh.

Terakhir rombongan menengok fasilitas training centre Garuda Indonesia. Di sini rombongan mendapat penjelasan berbagai macam persoalan terkait proses pendidikan seluruh karyawan. Baik pramugari, pilot, pemasaran dan operasional lainnya.(janif zulfiqar).

IPO Garuda 2009 Dapat 'Lampu Hijau

JAKARTA, RABU - Rencana PT Garuda Indonesia melepas sahamnya ke publik (IPO) tahun 2009 mendapat lampu hijau dari pemerintah. "IPO Garuda akan masuk Rencana Kerja dan Anggaran Perusahaan perusahaan pada tahun 2009," kata Direktur Operasional Garuda, Ari Sapari seperti dikutip Antara, di Jakarta, Rabu (27/8).

Usai rapat dengan Menneg BUMN Sofyan Djalil bersama direksi dan komisaris Garuda, Ari mengatakan, persiapan untuk IPO sedang dilakukan. "IPO merupakan bagian dari upaya perusahaan memperoleh dana untuk pembiayaan kembali (refinancing) perusahaan," kata Ari.

Sebelumnya, Menneg BUMN Sofyan Djalil menyatakan Garuda merupakan satu nominasi BUMN yang akan masuk dalam privatisasi tahun 2009. IPO Garuda merupakan bagian dari restrukturisasi perusahaan yang saat memasuki penyelesaian.

Kinerja keuangan Garuda dalam satu tahun terakhir membaik, tercermin dari laba bersih 2007 sebesar Rp258 miliar. Tiga tahun sebelumnya rapor keuangan perusahaan penerbangan "pelat merah" ini masih defisit Rp 811,3 miliar (2004), Rp 688,4 miliar (2005), Rp 197 miliar (2006).

Perusahaan setidaknya membutuhkan dana sekitar 400 juta dollar AS agar keuangan terus positif, sementara pemerintah hanya mampu memberi suntikan sekitar 100 juta dollar AS.

Dalam satu diskusi belum lama ini, Dirut Garuda Emirsyah Satar mengatakan opsi IPO Garuda sedang dibicarakan antara pemerintah dengan DPR.

Emirsyah tidak berani memperkirakan berapa jumlah saham yang akan dilepas ke publik, termasuk jumlah saham yang akan diperoleh dari rencana aksi korporasi tersebut.

Akan tetapi katanya, jumlah saham yang diprivatisasi tidak boleh melebihi 51 persen, pemerintah harus tetap mayoritas.

Selain berencana IPO, Garuda sedang merestrukturisasi utang sekitar 800 juta dolar AS terdiri atas utang kepada European Credit Agency (ECA) dan utang Floating Rates Notes (FRN) kepada kreditor di Singapura, serta utang kepada pihak lokal seperti Bank Mandiri dan PT Pertamina.

Garuda Indonesia new logo

How do you find Garuda Indonesia logo? catchy? I still find it fine, the logo is (to me) better than any airline logo in the region (sorry), but i think the we need to change the "font". The current logo is a bit outdated, old-fashioned, and hmmm....not modern. Try something more futuristic, more 21st-century look.





And we tried to retouch the logo and here we go, we have a new look of Garuda Indonesia. Like it? Then tell Garuda Management now.

Satu hal buat Garuda ...........Perbaiki system reservasinya
mau pesen ticket harus tlp dulu ..pakai lama lagi
pernah tlp dr LN tuk rute domestik , biaya tlp hampir 50% dr harga ticket, dlm hal ini Lion lebih advance..

Garuda tiketnya sering abis .... Tapi susah banget kalau disuruh ningkatin frekuensi rute domestik,,, cuman cerita doank di surat kabar tapi realisasi gak ada

kerasa banget untuk penerbangan ke kota2 dengan frekuensi agak jarang seperti ke Banjarmasin, Pontianak, Batam, Pekanbaru, Padang, Banda Aceh

yg gua tau garuda lagi kekurangan armada skrg.. untuk expand ke luar negeri juga susah karena itu pesawat nya ga ada.. mereka uda order ke boeing tp kan baru taon 2009 delivery-nya..

bicara jumlah pesawat, garuda salah satu yg paling banyak pesawatnya, cuma kalah dari lion kalo ga salah.. cuma karena mereka lebi concern ke on-board service dan keselamatan, turn-around time nya ga secepat LCC kyk lion atau mandala (yg 30 menit max) kalo garuda kyknya lebih lama..

Kirain karena Garuda mau ngambil untung ... Sejak HOLIDAY SEASON kemaren sampe sekarang harganya cuman turun "dikiiiiit" banget ... Nanti pas lebaran bakal mahal banget pastinya

Setelah ditilik-tilik, ternyata airline lain juga sama mahalnya , cuman mereka mahal hanya pas PEAK SEASON ... Masih sering FULL pula ..

Kpanlah harga tiket kita dan kemudahan pesan tiket kita kembali normal seperti sebelum ditutupnya ADAM AIR ...

kalo menurut gua malah waktu itu yg tidak normal, sekarang ini yg normal.. waktu itu persaingan antar airline begitu ketat, sehingga banting2an harga biar tiketnya laku, sementara infrastruktur bandara ga sanggup menanggung lonjakan penumpang..

di sisi lain, untuk airlinenya sendiri ga sustainable kyk gitu, maintenance dan service juga dikurangi akhirnya.. akibatnya jatuh korban yg tidak sedikit, contoh adam air gulung tikar, jatayu tewas, kartika tewas, mandala sekarat tapi berhasil diselamatkan, merpati sekarat..

lagipula emang harga minyak dunia yg juga naik gila2an, jadi wajar kalo harga tiket juga naek..

Welcome aboard, Garuda Indonesia !

In the 90's, Garuda Indonesia was among the 5-stars airlines in the world, it was when Garuda flied to every corner of the world and even some unveiled spots like....GUAM !
When economy worsened in the end of 90's, Garuda was one of the most hit by the monetary crisis, and forced to sell the aircrafts to.....pay the debt, which continued by route-cuts, job-cuts, and blown by the high competition with domestic airlines which offered low fare.


So, during the period of 2002-2006, Garuda booked slightly over $120 million in net loss, and it got worse when oil price was skyrocketing during that period of time. Well, it was peanut compared to Malaysia Airline which booked $414 million in net loss in 2005 alone, or Thai airways which posted $ 143 million in net loss in Q3 of 2005 alone.

Now, Garuda Indonesia is fully alive and KICKING ! There are some good news about garuda which make it easier to pave the way to be among world's powerful airlines ( now we are among 30 biggest airline in the world).

1. In 2007, Garuda booked a net profit at $ 26 million, not bad at all, especially when most of airlines in the world still wrote their endless loss stories. This led Garuda management to plan to expand the operation, adding new routes to Australia, China, Central Asia, and Middle East, , resuming flight to US and Europe, and strengtening position in Southeast Asia. I personally hope that they will fly to Moskva too.

2. Garuda Indonesia has earned IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) safety certification from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This has made Garuda. With this acknowledgement, Garuda becomes the only operator in Indonesia who have fulfilled the standards of safety established by IOSA and IATA.

Garuda indonesia is still way above many airlines in terms of safety issue, i googled and found this :

5. Bristish Airways 4 cases

14. Swisair 4 cases

Garuda ? only 1 case. yipeeee !

3. Garuda Indonesia has followed up its recent move into profitability by announcing plans to purchase 10 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft worth an estimated US$2 billion to support route expansion plans to Europe, US, the Middle East and the rest of Asia. It is important to underline that the purchase plans for the new Boeing 777-300ER will have no impact on existing plans to acquire 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliner for their fleet in 2012, as i already wrote about this in my previous article.

Also, this year Garuda will begin receiving 50 units of Boeing 737-800 aircraft which will strengthen Garuda position in regional and domestic market.

4. Expansion of airports in Indonesia.
Jakarta, Bali, Medan, Makassar, Bandung, will have new terminals and new airports. Bali plans to add new runway and international terminal to the existing old terminal and single runway. Medan will soon move its troubled airport to a new world-class airport in Kuala Namu. Makassar has silently move to new airport. Jakarta has announced that its Terminal 3 will be operated by the end of 2008. It's said that Jakarta Int'l airport will be able to accomodate 58 million passenger by 2015. Of coz, this will make a good way for Garuda to achieve its goals.

ALmost All of them are major airlines and serving intercontinental routes frequently. Not to mention about their huge fleet and armadas. Especially for any of airlines which serves 4-season country where the weather is quite a big deal. Have u ever heard Icey runway ?? Snow storm ??? In which condition will never exist in Indonesia ???

Aeroflot serves many RUssian destination. Indeed, weather in Rusia is quite unpredictable. And indeed, the icey runway stil can be happened even during summer in Northeast Siberia or North Rusia (where the land is just face to face with the north pole).



When, u've got more number of fleets and serving more destinations. The chance for u to get more cases is increasing. After all, when u divided the cases by the number of all flights, the percentage is still too small. Yet, for aeroflot case is still too big. Garuda is much better...
